Can you get to his doctor first? let them know what is going on? I am glad he wants to consult his doctor first, just scared for him and for you, that he will convince the doctor.

Hi, Carmen. Finally back. I had to get my son up, dressed and ready for school. Now, I'm here alone. I can't remember the last time I had the whole house to myself.

Yes, I'm planning to contact the doctor and fill them in on his conversation with me before his next visit. When he's calmed down a little, I also plan to talk about it with him. I will tell him what a bad idea I think it is, and remind him that he's tried it twice before and ended up depressed, suicidal, and hospitalized. I will ask him if he really wants to take the chance of going through and putting the kids and me through all of that again.

Whether he accepts that he is bipolar or not, he can't deny the facts of what happens when he is off meds. I know he is kind and responsible, and wants to take care of us, so hopefully I will be able to convince him. This is my best chance, because even if the doctor doesn't reduce the meds., my husband has to understand that he needs them.

Hey Terri, I hope that you are able to get through to him, and that his doctor listens to you, a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that once they get to feeling better they no longer need the medications, people do that all the time with antibiotics, the doctor will give them a 14 day script they get to feeling better in 4 and quit taking them and then don't understand why they get the illness right back again, you have to take the whole thing, if you want to get the illness out of your body, with the bipolar it could be a life long thing...your right whether he accepts having the illness doesn't really matter, what matters is how he is on the medications verses how he is when he is not.
