I'm new to this forum but have been on this site since April. I have family history (both diagnosed and not) of bipolar so I wasn't so surprised when I was diagnosed. I think I probably started showing symptoms when I was 13 or 14 years old. I would go through cycles of suicidal depression, and then suddenly be acting like I was hyped on sugar for a week or two. I was diagnosed a year ago with Major Depressive Disorder along with psychosis. I knew at the type it wasn't right though because I felt happy. That's when they started discussing my family history and this year was re diagnosed and treated for bipolar. I'm not currently on medication for it. I didn't agree with it and hated the way I felt so drugged and my family talked about how I acted drunk from the meds and couldn't walk right. I was also treated for severe insomnia (having only a few hours sleep for a couple weeks) but the sleep aids either didn't work or made me hallucinate.

Since then I've done talk therapy and learned a lot on my own how to rationalize and cope. Now when I feel paranoid or feel impulses I make myself stop and figure out why I'm thinking this and if it's logical. I've come a long way since my ten day stay in a psych ward.

I finally joined hoping I could lend another opinion and maybe get a little feedback from some of my own questions.

Captain Hook: I think you mean an epiphany.
Smee: No... lightning has just struck my brain.
Captain Hook: Well, that must hurt.
