Welcome Suzanner, I was taking Lithium until an allergic reaction caused me to stop. It will initially make you a bit drowsy, but after a while it probably will go away. It did for me, that is before I had the swelling. Oh, by the way, I would take it really early before I was ready to get up for the day, and lay back down and nap the drowsy away. Can you set your alarm an hour early, and take your medication without leaving your bed? It sounds like we've been sisters. I have been much as your story.
