I'm 37yrs old with a teenage son and a 6mo daughter. I have been battling this disorder for over 20yrs now and havn't seemed to find a med that works for me. right now I am at the lowest i have ever been in my life. I have weakness in my arms and legs and barely have the strenght to take care of my daughter. I have violent outbursts where I will start throwing or breaking objects. I had just seen my dr today and she started me on lithium. I am leary about this drug since I have been so lethargic I don't even have the motivation to take a shower. from what I have read on the drug, it makes you fatigued and a few people I have talked to said they felt like a zombie while taking it. I'm so confused right now and I'm afraid to even start the meds. I'm hoping to find answers/help from anyone! thanks!

Welcome Suzanner,

I was taking Lithium until an allergic reaction caused me to stop. It will initially make you a bit drowsy, but after a while it probably will go away. It did for me, that is before I had the swelling. Oh, by the way, I would take it really early before I was ready to get up for the day, and lay back down and nap the drowsy away. Can you set your alarm an hour early, and take your medication without leaving your bed?

It sounds like we've been sisters. I have been much as your story. I hope you will become more like my story as you get healthier and happier with your treatments.

God Bless you!

I am also on Lithium, with Prozac and Klonopin. I sometimes am drowsy, but overall, it works great. I have tried Abilify and Lamictal, all of which I have had bad side effects from. The lithium has been the best, but there has been a little bit of weight gain that annoys me.

Suzanner,

Check out our other forums especially the one about medication. There are lots of stories there which may help you, too.

Hug!
