MDJunction to me

mabri"When I was diagnosed about 18 months ago with fibromyalgia, I didn't know where to turn. I got on my computer and looked for a support group where I could talk to other people with the same disease and get some help...Information, suggestions, mostly just what I can do now that I have this.....disorder/disease/syndrome...I didn't even know what to call it. I found MDJ, and yes, there was a support group for fibro. I started a post, and figured I would never get an answer. However, very quickly I was welcomed in, and became really involved in the group. I received help, support, friendship and the feeling of being truly cared about by these strangers who had become like family to me. Now, I have been here for about a year and a half...I have become a group leader, and love every minute of it. It is so wonderful to be able to help others. I still receive help and answers from the members in this group. The fibromyalgia is where I go to help, support, listen, care and even laugh. I don't know what I would do without this group." Really worried about my parents finding about me being bipolar... haven't been throughly diagnosed yet but I want to know how much people need to know before I continue on. If I choose to have treatment will my parents have to be told?? Im 16yrs old nearly 17.

If you are on their insurance definitely...

I was hospitalized when I was 18, and they didn't call my parents per se, but my parents found out when the insurance bills arrived.

I'm not sure whether your parents will be told if you pay for it yourself...although I bet they will be.

Why are you afraid for your parents to find out that you are seeking help?

Maybe ask your school counselor how all this type of thing works.

BP I
What one man can do, another can do - The Edge.

Lithium 900 mg
Seroquel (tapering off)
Ativan 1-2 mg
Propranolol 80 mg for performance anxiety
Ritalin 10-20 mg as needed

I think that it is very impressive that you are able to accept a diagnosis and are interested in pursuing treatment. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people here when I say that I wish I had been able to get treatment at an earlier age.

As far as your parents go, if you have to tell them at some point, I would just be very matter of fact and tell them how you intend to proceed and show them that you are handling the situation. Hopefully that will reassure them and reduce the chance that they will freak out.

My best wishes to you and I admire your courage so much.

I'm an Advocate

Call Social Services in your state and ask them your question.

My instincts say yes, they will have to be told, but I could be wrong. A social worker can probably tell you right away.

My advice is purely personal. I am not a Doctor and there is NO substitute for getting proper medical diagnosis and advice.

Bipolar II, Depressed Severe

Lamictal 400 mg
Seroquel 150 mg
Effexor 150 mg
Inderal 10 mg
Ambien 5 mg
Lithium 1200 mg

Depends on your State Laws. In Colorado, when you turn 15 yrs old you can "force" confidentiality from parents. But, once the insurance information is received, they will figure it out.

Probably best to education yourself about BP and tell your parents yourself. Perhaps invite them to attend your next Psychiatric Dr. appt so the Dr. can explain BP from a Professional/Medical point of view.

It all depends I am not sure about physc but when my sister in law ( she was 16 ) went to the doctors and found out she was pregnant they didn't tell my mother in law actually no one new till she started showing can't imagine physc would be any different. But most meds you can't even pick up from the pharm with out being 18. So they might not pick up the phone and say you child has bp but I am sure they will find out one way or another!
