I would like to see where everyone goes to get info, support,or whatever involving bipolar. Please only one site per person and tell us why that particular site has helped you. Just want to see what others are looking at.
BE BLESSED!

Hi Bipolarmamma!

I come here. It is my only regular place of support. I have studied this condition well and can say there are a multitude of places to find answers.

I like it here because Folks let you be Folks! There's very specific information and links in context of the discussions at times.

I like the rally around when we do it to help encourage one another.

It is another home for me.

Thanks for letting me reply to your survey.

Hugs!

I get most of my support from my therapist and from a few friends with whom I've been open about my illness. My family is, unfortunately, not very supportive of the concept of mental illness as an actual illness and biochemical problem.

This is the first online forum I've been to, and I'm really glad you're all here. -)

Try - http://www.meetup.com/

I live in a Chicago suburb and found this site. They have meetings and an online support network for all sorts of problems, I have joined the Chicago Depression Meetup Group which has people with depression and bipolar depression. I have just joined but from what I hear on the boards they are a good group of people who want to stay positive and help each other.

I use to go to a site, but my computer went out and I had to get another one. Since then... I have not been able to find it. So, I searched and found this site just a week or so ago and I have been here since.

God love ya

I get my information from all over the web, there are different sites that have information, I rely on my therapist for guidance, friends and family for support. Belong to two group sites, this one and one on yahoo.

I get my info from the Depression and Manic Depression Alliance website. (I think it is dmda.org) There is a lot of good information there and it deals with all of the different variations of BPD. I like this website better, though. More personal. --peach

Hi there,

I get my support from my therapist, my psychosocial rehab worker, and my pdoc, and a few friends that are bipolar, that I know here in Idaho. We don't have many support groups, here.I participate in 12 step meetings, so that helps, alot. I have found a few sites online, that I like. NAMI.com is one.

I really like this forum because of the support, and the cool people on here. I have really enjoyed coming here and reading all the posts. I have even made friends, too.

I have tried to post on other sites, and have never gotten a response from anyone.

Godbless, Gypsy

I tend to lean toward .gov or .org sites as they seem to be more unbiased. Also, I got a few books - one for my BP hubby - the Bipolar Workbook (although I haven't been able to do more than read some of it to him so far) and two for me - Bipolar Disorder Demystified and the Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide. These two are good for anyone wanting more insight into the varying types of BPD, how the BP person feels at different stages and how companions can and can't assist... but what I haven't found anywhere is how/if companions are supposed to try to be "normal" as much as possible or if that's counterproductive for the BP person - it's so hard to go out when the BP is down, but I also think they'll feel that much worse later if they know how much the companion gave up to appease them. Most of our friends/neighbors/church know about his illness (hard to hide after a couple of manic episodes) but we still "hide" when he's down and downplay when he's up - is this good or bad? Thoughts?

Thanks for asking! Hope this info is a little helpful.
