Gloria...I think that your approach is appropriate. Not that you need validation. Maybe I do by saying this...directness is not aggression. It is just being direct and not beating around the bush. Clevergirl...you are right if we need to hear reality to get us off of the pity potty.

Red..you know how much I appreciate you. And I am a person who believes in turning the other cheek, until by doing that I do harm. Seeing the fallacy in what another person is doing and calling attention to it is not aggression. It is feed-back that will help that person. Ignoring behavior that is destructive, is condoning it. By our silence we say it is ok. The Good Samaritan...did not walk past when the others all did. He gave the beggar something to help them. Gloria's heart has always been in the right place when she has given some of her strongest posts. I can detect no malice or mean spiritedness...Sure she comes on strong. But, instead of taking offense at the language...why not listen to the message.

"In the time of your life, live-so that in that wondrous time you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but, shall smile to the infinite variety and mystery of it." William Saroyan

Well said Norma! Please allow me to add this: It stands to reason that if someone has a very strong opinion on a certain subject, there must be some kind of motivation behind that opinion. When others are unaware of the motivation, it's easy for them to assume that the strong opinions are callous and harsh and vindictive; when in all actuality, they are most likely coming from a place of a true and deep understanding.

Gloria - I hear you loud and clear. I'm not sure that red was referring to any specific incident in his post, it seems more of a general statement, but I MOST CERTAINLY understand where your heart and head are and I agree with and support your approach. I stand behind you 375%!!! You are passionate in your beliefs and remain true to yourself... AND (this may surprise some people) you're one of the biggest softies I know. I adore you.....

No, No, Gloria I've heard that you're a softie mentioned by a lot of other members...in the words of Simon Cowell, 'Sooorry!'*shrug*

I concur with...

wait for it...

wait for it...

G-L-O-R-I-A Glooooooria.

That is not to say Red that you don't make a valid point of exercising diplomacy as a way of staying out of heated arguments of points being made, but I never did like candy apples. You know the green extra-sour kind that make you cross your eyes but you wrap them in a coat of caramel and it's all good. Takes the edge off.

I will contend as I have since becoming a member of this board, IF YOU DON'T WANT DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES FROM DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES, DON'T POST IT "PUBLICLY"...even on a support board. I'm not "Bipolar 1" because I am calm, cool and collected or in any way diplomatic. I'm 'Bipolar', because my moods are extreme, I say what I say when I think it and it may, or may not come across as harsh...

Maybe there should be a warning on the front page of the site.

I've been following this thread with great interest, many things said here valid.

Whoever said "I hope this don't end up in the opinions thread" has absolutely no worries about that, this conversation is being conducted as adults.. for that I am very proud of you all.

Glory? I believe it was you who mentioned the babbling brooks and the thunder of Niagara Falls, maybe I am weird but I love them both.. the soft gentle nature of a babbling brook reminds me of love and the soothing that calms the soul.. the thunder of falls reminds me of power..wildness, and strength. One of my favorite times to go to the beach is when there is a storm out in the ocean, the waves are crashing on to the shore..it reminds me of just what a insignificant speck we humans are in the grand scheme of things.

For me I am sure some see me as a passive person sugar coating things, but that is far from the truth, I strive to see what the author is saying.. some folks only understand screaming in the face to snap them back to reality, case in point a father and son when I was tending bar, sitting there yelling and screaming at each other, disturbing the peace of others, I tried nicely three times to get the point across they were disturbing others, they didn't get it, I picked up the baseball bat we kept behind the bar, and brought it full force down on the counter top and told them that the next mother "F'er" that opened their mouth was going to get it upside the head, this they understood,

others need that soft soothing voice to pull them up out of the depths. Many a person have I met that if that the shout approach had been used on them they would have went over the cliff.. they needed the soft comfort of a person that understood, would listen and offer a safe way to get it out.

I'll agree that people need the truth and sometimes that truth must be delivered in a shout, but also that we must try and understand where the author is coming from, sometimes I will read and re read a post till I believe I have as close as a full understanding that I can.. and post what I believe is appropriate. Not all will agree with me, and that I understand, but I also understand that shouting what a person is saying is not the way to go in a forum where others peace is disturbed.. and this is when I step in, generally in a pm to get that point across..

Glory does have a soft center, sometimes hidden under a rough exterior, Glenn calls me his rough, tough, marshmallow, my baby brother says that Carmen might be a bitch but at least with her you know where you stand..

Oh, Carmen...you and I are so much alike...thanks for posting this...I do the same thing...several warnings...then, I have had enough. And say something usually pretty strong...and I wish I had a nickle for everytime my husband said at least you know where you stand with Norma. I have had a whole week like that where the warnings were unheeded and I had to finally come down on some people. And they always try to turn it around, and say she was too harsh, having ignored the warnings. Thanks...kiddo..

sorry if this is off thread a little...I just had to say that....but, to make it back on thread the same thing happens on the forum also...our personalities...are part of us...it is what makes us human.

OMGosh! Me too!

Well maybe sometimes!

Times maybe not so much!

Maybe not at all!

But then I feel bad!

and then there are other times,

when I really could give a bleep!

and always the times, when I am just straight my bipolar self!
