Ok I need some help and advice. My wife was diagnosed as

bipolar about 3 years ago. She had been taking Respideral and lithium until about 4 weeks ago when a new doctor suggested that she might not be bipolar. He said that the incident from 3 years ago might in fact been a case of post part um depression. So he slowly took her off the meds. Well she just relapse and its just like the last time. I took her to her doctor today and he put her back on lithium and invega. She took 2 lithium pills and 1 invega pills tonight (don't know dosage). She is acting very delusional and psychotic tonight and wont fall asleep. My question is how long does it take for someone to get back to normal once you begin to take the meds again? Thank you ahead of time for your response.

I just wanted to share w/ you that some of these medicines....like invega and Geodon are primarily for people with schizophrania & when my husband was put on Geodon he acted VERY psychotic and delusional, couldn't sleep, didn't make sense when he talked to you...he was a totally different person. Why take a med primarily for schizo....when that is not what you have??? Bi-polar and schizo. are different! Good luck...I've been through that and it was aweful!

She still has some respidral left from when she stopped taking it. Do you recommend I give here the respidral and the lithium? How long does it take to get her back to normal?

I wouldn't want to recommend taking her off anything because I'm not a doctor but I sympathize with you...once my husband stopped taking the Geodon it was a good week or so before he was completly back to normal...my husbands dr. just perscribed him invega and he is not going to take it...once I read about it on the internet it sounded just like the Geodon. I would suggest that you call her doctor and explain her behavior and your concerns I would also recommend doing as much research as possible on the internet about the meds...this has really helped me. We have had a really HARD time finding a good doctor, who listens to our needs and concerns...I hope you have more luck then we do!! Hang in there and I hope what I have said helps a little....

It depends on the individual and their brain chemistry. For me, once I resume meds, about 3 weeks to come back down. But I've got a severe case, so I get really really high when I'm manic. There's a med called seroquel that's good for acute mania. Maybe, she ought to go to the hospital? Anyway, hope she gets stable soon,

take care,

J

No one here are doctors and you really need a doctor in your wife's case. She needs to see or speak to a pdoc. These side effects are not good for anyone. Most meds have what is called a theraputic level. Only a doc and sometimes lab works are able to establish what the level is for any particular person. Please get your wife into see a doc.
BE BLESSED!

Thanx for the replies guys and gals. I placed a call to her psychologist this morning and he returned my call. He asked me to give it till tomorrow to see how she is going to react to the Invega, which she started last night. He told me that the psychosis could calm down with in a day or two. So I'll see what happens. I wish the best for everyone here in this forum.
