Hi guys,

I have been looking into classes for criminal justice. I know there are serious problems if you have mental conditions, if you are stable will that cause exceptions? Give me your thoughts. Have a great night.

Thanks. C.Tongue

Hmm, I think since it's considered a disability they cannot discriminate against you, but I honestly have no idea. I just spent the weekend watching that reality show SWAT, and think that being one of those guys would be so cool. Good luck!

In my state they give you a long test. I would think your bi polar may show within the test. This opens up the debate as to if certain occupations should be off limited to people with a mental illness.

That is my fear. I want to get into Computer Forensics working for Homeland Security or some government agency. (I work for one now, so have my foot in the door.) The problem is, the stuff I really want to do requires high-level security access which I am not confident I would be able to get due to my illness(s). So... do I follow my dream career with the possibility of never being able to truly use the degree or do I pursue something else?

Can you ask the career counselor at your college, or the dean of the criminal justice department?

I would pursue your dream. I always say it is a yes until they tell me no!

I would go for it and see what happens. At least you will have tried. I am not sure if it would limit you or not. It may depend on where you are trying to get the job.

I'm an Advocate

We had a member here at one time in this situation. He said that as long as he was on meds and stable, it was OK regarding his clearance.

I have heard through someone else, but I don't know if it's true, that you won't get a clearance if you file the type of bankruptcy where you don't pay anything back.

My advice is purely personal. I am not a Doctor and there is NO substitute for getting proper medical diagnosis and advice.

Bipolar II, Depressed Severe

Lamictal 400 mg
Seroquel 150 mg
Effexor 150 mg
Inderal 10 mg
Ambien 5 mg
Lithium 1200 mg

I have bipolar dissorder myself and have done research on it and i have been on alot of websites with people talking about it and its really getting on my nerves because everyone is saying that it is a mental dissorder. Bipolar is a mood dissorder not a mental dissorder.
