Hi--Does anyone have any input on your experience(s) with group therapy? I have only been to group when I was in the hospital. I would love to hear your opinion about the effectiveness of group, bc I am going to decide on whether to parktake in group therapy.

Thanks!

I personally got more out of group therapy than any other kind. The group is quick to point out when you are not truthful. It can be tough.

And you have to be able to accept and evaluate what is being said to you. And you get to give your experience and opinion in the group. WAAAAYYY Cool! Good Luck with it...let us know how it goes.

Why Lie, When you Can Just Be Honest
lying takes 100 heart beats
telling the truth takes 2
if you lie now they will find out later and things will be worse then ever so just tell the truth now and deal with it

Girl, I have never participated in a group therapy session as a patient. However, I have been on rounds in the hospital and took orders from the Psychiatrists as the group session was held. I must tell you, it is very intense. Lke norma said, there is a lot to be gained. Unless you are afraid to face your demons, it could be of great value to you.....Please let me know how it goes too.

Love

Gloria

So what do you mean by facing demons? When I was in group in the hospital I don't remember it being much more than the bipolars joking around. I was accidentally put in the schitzophrenia group one day. That was pretty interesting. I was in a group once where I really pissed this one woman off. I just don't remember talking too much in group before.

The more you talk in group the more interaction you get. If you are in a good group there is usually an exchange of ideas and opinions. If you are not afraid of having people point out flaws in your thinking it is a good experience. It might make you mad at first but, in the long run it helps you grow.

I will be aware of that. I think I am going to do it, so when I go I will speak up. It is hard for me to do that sometimes, but we'll see how it goes. I learn a lot from observing others, so this might be a good place to do that. Do people point you out no matter what?

Geekgirl...if you are honest with yourself you have nothing to fear. And if you want to learn how to deal with issues you have nothing to fear. You have a lot to offer the group and watching is fine. The more you interact the better the group becomes. If you are tentative at first that is understandable and the group may ask you questions. Just be open for other's opinions. Most groups have a moderator that helps the group keep on track....you will do fine.
