I'm not sure there is a quick fix. Being watched by everyone isn't fun however, do they have your best interest in mind? Is drinking an issue for you in general or have you had a problem with it in the past? Does it increase your cycling? I have bipolar disease and I know that alcohol is not something that mixes well with this disease but also from my own perspective, my husband is a recovering alcoholic and if he had just one drink, I would be fuming and it would be a big deal. Again, I'm not sure of your circumstances with regards to alcohol but I would suggest asking your fiance, your friends, etc. what their concerns are and being willing to listen. The hard part for me in contending with this disease, is being willing to listen to others about the behaviors I am demonstrating and knowing that they are just trying to help me and keep my healthy but it's not easy to listen to.

Amen to that response....I was the care giver of my wife who has BP. She was also a drug and alcoholic. I know I was hard on her at times when she drank or use, but I as well as other around her were only try to help her and look after her. We only had her best intrest in mind. I know it was probably tough everyone harping on her at time, but it was rough for those around her that suffered from her behaviors with just the bp, let alone self medicating. Right now we are seperated, with divorce pending. She never did it.....wrecked cars, spending money none of it sank in.

Drinking just does not work with bp.

I would have to second what Moody said, find out their reasons behind their concern, being a alcoholic/addict myself, I know that if I started drinking again, not only would my husband and Mom have a spasm so would my brothers and others that know me, it doens't mix well with the medications that we take, as you can find the interactions on several websites, www.drugs.com being the one that I am using the most at the moment, but webmd and several others are out there.

If you are in recovery like I am, then you know that once you start, it progresses very rapidly and you will find yourself in a deeper hole than what you were in when you got sober. It took living on the streets in Long Beach California and wanting to die for me to finally quit fighting and give up and get sober.

Dear Littlebit

You are brave to come here and talk about this. It isn't easy to speak up about things which we want to defend in ourselves.

I'm with the others who have posted here. Ask them for kind, but honest answers. Ask them to explain in a way that is not emotional or accusing which is destructive to you.

Hope for you, Honey!
