Hi, my first post was a couple of days ago. I've mostly just been reading what you guys have to say. First I want to say I'm glad this site exists. It helped me through the last few days. I am the SO of a bipolar man and this is the first episode I have ever experienced.the episode he is having right now has landed him in the hospital. he is delusional about the military and other things and has not communicated with me since leaving. It is scary. and so is all of the lying, cheating, yelling, and abuse being reported by you guys. That is an area I cannot relate to. My boyfriend is softspoken, has never called me a bad name, has raised his voice to me maybe 2-3 times in the 2-3 brief arguments we have had. We've been together for two years. Is there potential for that kind of behavior to start at some point?

Emin, I sure hope not. But if he is truely bipolar, you must expect the unexpected. How did this latest episode that put him in the hospital, start, and at what point was he hospitalized?

Hi eminette,

Well, I have bipolar 1, and I know this illness can get worse if not treated. I was pretty mellow, when, I was younger, but, could get dillusional at times. It got worse over the years, and the anger got worse. If he was in the war, I bet that would have been very mentally traumatizing for him.

God Bless,Gypsy

Dear Eminette, Your boyfriend sounds like my son who is soft spoken and sweet...just grouchy when he wasn't on meds. Son also has a delusion about the military following him...he is on an anti-psychotic Zyprexa right now...and that helps...

It is so scary to experience an episode of a loved one. It seems like they will never be back, like they have gone away. My son did get well and is himself now...please keep posting...we are here for you.

Not all people with bipolar disease are abusive, cheat, lie etc. I think we hear a lot of it here because this is a place a lot of people come to in times of trouble. There are also many stories of hope and people leading happy lives...

He started getting up early inthe morning for about 3 days straight... he never does that. He said probably cause he's been working and getting used to waking early. And he was smoking alot. Then he started making short trips to the store for little things. He gets antsy at times so it raised no red flags for me really. This was the same 3 days. Then he went to the police station to talk to the police about speeders on our street. It is very real, but i wondered...why now? Next day slight talk of military. Went to work and never returned.

Yep, that is what it is like for my son too...nothing you can put your finge on...just strange behavior. And now that he is on meds I watch him constantly...which is not good. He feels like he is under a microscope...

When he got sick he knew it...called an ambulance and went to the emergency room...was so incoherent that he wandered off. By the time I got to the hospital he was totally psychotic...that quick...it was terrible...they admitted him to the hospital thank God.

To gypsy ... he was not in a war but his first recognized episode was while he was in the military...briefly. Norma was your son in the military? anyone know why that is a common delusion? My childhood neighboor grew up to have military delusions and he wasn't invoved in the military in any way.

Yes, he went into the Air Force right out of high school and had a complete breakdown in the first three weeks...Spent 2 months in the hospital in San Antonio, Texas..that was six years ago...he was great for the past 6 yrs. But, stopped taking meds under dr's supervision and had another episode in Nov of this year...he is still getting better from that on meds...he is very good about working, no alcohol, and living a healthy life. There is hope, honey.
