Hello Everyone,

I was diagnosed with bipolar July of last year and have been taking depakote for my illness. Before taking the medications I was able to get things done with ease and I felt a lot better about myself. I felt like I could do anything (symptons of bipolar) and now I find myself in a fog, gained a lot of weight, have trouble concentrating (in and out) and dont enjoy the things that I used too. I feel that the medications are making me lazy and I am finding myself at home watching tv more and more when I used to enjoy getting out and walking, riding bikes whatever. I miss that energy that I use to have. Is there something that I could take that would help me get back some of my energy?

I would suggest talking to your doctor. I was on lithium and it stopped working so they put me on depakote and so far I've been okay.

Hi rsc,

I was on Depakote 5 yrs ago, and I felt the same way. When, I got back on meds, I told my pdocs, that, I didn't want anything, that made me tired. I have 4 kids, and I have to beable to keep up with my life...LOL

I would talk to your pdoc, and see if you can find something that isn't such a weight gainer, and that doesn't knock you down so much.

If you are new, welcome, I am glad you have found us. If you aren't, blame it on my meds...LOL

God Bless,Gypsy

Thanks for the replies. I have told my pdoc about all of this and it she doesn't want to change anything. She offered lithium but I heard but I heard bad things about lithium(so i refused. Depakote is mood stablizer and should't be taking my energy away. I will be adding Lamictal to my diet and on our next visit and hopefully that will help with some of my issues. If anyone out there has any further suggestion. Please let me know-Thanks rsc78-Rick

i have to take adderall with my meds (abilify, wellbutrin, klonopin) to augment the wellbutrin or i get depressed. it helps with the energy thing. don't you hate it when they say things like "it's a mood stabilizer so it shouldn't be affecting you like this" when you know damn well that it is? good luck. it's so hard to get the meds right.

I take Lithium. I also take Lamictal. Lithium works really well for me.

The only thing about Lithium is you have to monitor it, so it doesn't go toxic. With Depakote, you are supposed to do labs, too.

There are alot of meds out there. Don't be afraid to check them out.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the comments. It sounds like I will need to keep working on getting the right medication for me. I was hopeing that I could just take something and be happy with. I guess i will have to go in circles like some other people I have talked too to get it right. I let you know how it works out. Thank You
