I have a fear of large crowds of people I don't know...and by 'large', I mean THREE or more people...so I rarely ever go out.

My worst wierd fear is public door handles...I refuse to touch them so you can imagine when I have a short sleeve shirt on I'm screwed...LOL

When I am out with my husband it always looks like he is so old fashioned and sweet because he opens my doors for me. Only he and I know I am freaky petrified of germs that cause illness and boogers...people who pick their nose and then open doors...gross.

Your fear of crowds is understandable, I have it too, it amazes me I can work retail, where you have tons of people around, but in intimate situations like parties, I will sometimes start to go into a panic, carry a handkerchief with you.. great for opening doors, and handy if you need to blow your nose..you can also carry one of those hand sanitizer sprays with you and just spritz the door knob before entering..

I took the interstate today... I made myself do it... I thought "well, if all of these other people are doing this I should be able to do it, I have only been driving for 35 years

so I got on the dadgum on ramp and took a deep breath and floored it and there I was doing it... felt great... felt better when I got off...but, at least I did it... this thread inspired me....thanks so much for starting it Blackbird...((hug))

You go girl!

time to slowly explore the world around you. It will be scary, still is for me at times, as the spouse of a bipolar ex... but we need to live our own lives.

Woo hoo!!, I get nervous on the freeway, too. I had to drive on it, today.

(((Norma, Gypsy))), it's wonderful to hear that you have faced a fear, as you do it more and more, it will lessen, I too was nervous the first time I had to drive on a freeway, but as I did it more and more, I got use to it, so that it didn't scare me anymore, it's ok to be stressed, when you get off the freeway, just do something nice and soothing for yourself, have a cup of tea, or a soda and sit there and chill. Pretty soon it will become like second nature.

Few of the folks out here like driving on the interstate, unless they have to travel for great distances, they take the side roads, and some will even travel side roads if they do.. I still don't mind driving on them, but now after living where it isn't near as congested as L.A. the amount of traffic on them gets on my nerves..

When I first moved out here to South Carolina, I use to giggle about people fussing about the traffic, and there might have been 25 cars on the road, the 405 freeway in California during rush hour would have drove them over the edge, I find myself now fussing about all the traffic..lol, but of course now there are many more cars than 25.
