Hi Lisa,

Welcome. I am glad you have found us. There 1100 members here with bipolar, and those who love them.

I have bipolar 1, and rapid cycle, too. I am on Lithium, and Lamictal.I also take Buspar for sleep. I have Ambien, that I have just incase, The buspar doesn't work. I have been told to get excercise, eat a good diet, eat chocolate, journal, and write down my moods for the day. Call someone that you can vent to. You also can come here. Someone is usually always here.

Feel free to vent, share, and ask questions. You are not alone.

I still cycle but it isn't extreme. I have just had my Lithium adjusted.

It has really helped. I also have learned ways to take care of myself.

God Bless,Gypsy

Hi Gypsy

thanks for sharing. It always helps to talk about things. I have been on lithium for about 7 years and it has mostly kept me very stable but every once in a while it seems like the mania gets a hold of me usually starting spring and summertime. Also PMS is really getting to be a trigger since it seems to make me wired and restless. I go to the extreme like working to long in the garden and not sleeping through the night Right now I feel like a truck hit me cause my body hasn't had time to rest adequately.

Do you thunk I need more meds?

Hi Lisa...you might need something to help you sleep that is not habit forming. That way you can take it just when you need to.

Welcome to the group....make yourself at home...glad you are here.

Hi Lisa,

I relate. I have been just going, not a bad mania, but, I worked 4 hours in the garden sunday. I had one night last week that, I couldn't sleep. This winter, I was so depressed. I went for a few days all happy, and feeling good, and today, and yesterday, I was so tired. The Lithium works really well for me, too, and my sleep is alot better since, I have been on it.But, once in a while I need something extra. So you could ask for something just for when you need it.

God Bless,Gypsy

hi, all and welcome to new members. insomnia is my worst problem right now. this winter, i, too, was so depressed. then i got into a period of time that i literally wouldn't even get into bed several nights per week because i knew i wouldn't sleep. i take abilify and just had my dose doubled b/c part of my problem is nightmares. have had them since i was little and still do. but it's more than that and it's worse since the sunlight has really started changing here in michigan. i want to do "projects" in the middle of the night, or i'm vacuuming or doing laundry. i have lots of sleep meds i can take, but i don't like to and i also have to get into bed for them to work and there are times when i can't make myself. i know some people who swear by seroquel. have you tried it? gloria, another member, just loves it and says it does wonders for her sleep.

let me know if you find anything that works for you. i know what you mean when you say the body hurts, even if the mind doesn't think it needs rest. we need to sleep!

Hi, Lisa, welcome to the group, have you talked with your doctor about this? there has to be something to help you rest, when i don't sleep well, I feel like i have been ran over by a 18 wheeler, and they backed up and done it again, I'm on the lamictal, and so far it is helping to keep me stable and not causing any interference with my sleeping, I have the added problem of having sleep apnea, and diabetes, both will mess with your sleep.

Hi thanks for all the advise and sharing --I don't wish ill on anyone but its nice not to be alone. I upped my lithium by one dose yesterday and I did sleep thru the night. I am only taking 2x450mg a day usually so that may be low for me right now. currently I am not seeing a psych doc and just see my general doc. I find it loathsome to keep seeing a psych doc because they over analyze everything and that sometimes makes it worse!

I never really took any other sleep meds--just trying to

keep my body functioning on as little meds as I can.

Wish you the best getting some peaceful rest.

breathe deeply---Lisa
