I was wanting some input from any of you who have applied for SS Disability due to Bipolar 1 disorder. I have the Bipolar 1, Anxiety disorders,Personality disorders and High blood pressure. My work history is pitiful to say the least. What I was wondering is how long it takes to hear something(I applied early March), and if anyone was successful in getting it. All I hear is how many get denied. How are you suppose to get along fiancially while you are waiting, or if you don't succeed in getting the disability? I am a widow of 2 years with two sons...one in medical school and one about to graduate college. Just the anxiety of waiting on this is pushing me over the edge. Anyone with experience and info?? Thanks!

Hello. i applied for SSD in August of 06. I am bipolar 1 with borderline personality disorder. I had alot of medical records and had already been out of work for over a year. I also had been on more dif meds than I can count. I saw there doc the 29 of Aug. I recieved a small SSI check the first week of oct and my SSD stted the following month. If you have any questions feel free to ask. i don't mind. There are also others on here who have applied.

Thanks for responding about your SS situation. I do check the "status" online and have found they are now reviewing all medical data. Like yourself, I have been on numerous meds for years. I just am trying to be hopeful they approve something for me.Both my psychiatrist and PCP have suggested I go this route. Fingers crossed! Thanks again...

I hope you get it. Just be patient. Its cool that you can check it online, I didn't have access at the time.

Hi La2620,

I have bipolar 1 with Rapid cycling, and psychotic features.I have filed for SSI, and that was last April. I was denied twice, and had to appeal it, and am now waiting for a hearing. I got a lawyer after my first denial. I gave them all my records, and also haven't had a good work history. I got great reports from my pdoc, and therapist.

I am on every welfare resource, I could get. I have 4 kids. I get medicaid, housing, and foodstamps, and child support for my kids.

My boyfriend was on liver treatments for a year, and he filed for temp disability, and is still waiting for a hearing, and he is done with his treatments. He is close to working again, so we will be have more money coming in. But, we have learned how to budget really well...LOL Keep after it, no matter what. You will get it eventually.

God Bless,Gypsy
