[b]hello...can anyone help me or give me some advice! I have recently been diagnosed with bipolar act 12-07 and have been off work [out on disability] because it has been hard to cope and hard getting meds situated! I am a rapid cycler which seems challenging with meds. Anyways, my question is my doctor has given my company a suggestive accommodation which is for me to work days be off by 5 instead of the second shift...which my employer has agreed. I am very thankful for that. My current job is sales i work for a large bank and they are putting me through a 6 week training course [just because i have been out for so long] but i am really afraid that the job is going to be to stressful for me to handle! My question is should i discuss that with my employer as there are many departments that i may have opportunities that would be less stressful/ just dont know exactly how to handle this situation! [my immediate manager is not aware of my condition] any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks...

kelli

Hey Kelly welcome, is this job you did before something you enjoyed? if so give it a test trial, see how you are doing with it, after my hospitalization back in July, I knew if I did return to the job I had prior (Branch Manager for a Check Cashing place -hold your check till payday-) I would not be able to handle it, far more stress than what I needed, and I hated the job period, so I didn't return to that field, I went into Customer Service, which is a job field I love.

If you truly feel in your heart you would not be able to handle it, do talk with your employer about changing jobs.

Carmen

Dear Kelli, I employ several people who are bipolar and I am bipolar also.

I think it is great bank is working with you. As for if job is too stressful...just look for warning signals you are getting stressed or that you are being triggered by work. Sleep habits seem to be the big signal for most of the people that work for me. glad you joined the forum...

Hi Kelli,

I have been on SSD for a long time so I have no direct experience with mental illness in the workplace. I have heard several of our peers say they went to the Human Resources Manager when they needed job function changes.

I am really happy to see so many folks here doing well, and being productive. It is really a motivating force.

Dear klmimi....I know about sales quotas...I am the person who sets them...if this will help...seldom are they realistic...they are projections from budgets. In a down market like we are in now sales managers are under pressure also. Ask for suggestions and ideas from supervisor on how to improve sales, watch and learn from those who sales figures are good...and above all you gotta love your customers...hugs, Norma

I would hire you in a minute!!! LOL sounds like company sets realistic goals...that is good. If mind is confused write things down. I have one salesman who writes everything down!!! Has saved his rear many a time...

If you have a positive attitude that is going to make you head and shoulders above the rest. And you can PM me anytime...for a hug, advice, or to vent...I was top sales in my company for years...beat all of the guys...before I went into Management. I miss sales..good luck...
