I think my fiance is still going through mania and its been abot 3 weeks. He is taking his meds daily. He cannot sleep at night, he was given Lunestra 2 pills at bedtime but lately he has been taking 4 to try to sleep 2-4 hours. I am so scared I'm going to lose him to this.

Dear Bornagain,

Get fiance to call doctor asap....meds may need adjustment...taking more than the prescribed dosage not a good idea at all. If mania gets really bad take him to doctor's office...tell them they need to work him in....don't take no for an answer.

What other syptoms besides not sleeping? What other meds is he taking and at what times? How is mood? Good, angry, any changes?

Something is making him agitated...could be bipolar disease or could be one of his meds...probably not lamactil...adhd med?? perhaps. Unless he looks like he is going to hurt himself probably best do as he says and leave him alone...sometimes, bipolar people just need time to gather themselves. It is not a personal thing, so don't take it that way. Try to keep your mood calm...and find something to occupy your time...I do crossword puzzles, anything quiet that occupies you.

Does he fall asleep and wake up? Or is he not able to go to sleep at all?

Hi bornagain,

I take Lamictal, and tried taking just that, and I was still cycling.

Once, I got on a good med for the Mania, It have solved my problem. I was agitated, couldn't sleep, and very sensitive. I have had to take Ambien for sleep, and now, I haven't had to take it, anymore. I am also taking an anxiety med. It all helps. I would have him call his pdoc. Hang in there, it will get better.

God Bless,Gypsy

Did this start prior to the lunesta being added? I've read on another group that I belong too, that Ambien will make a bipolar manic, I am wondering if the lunesta might be doing it as well, he does need to get into see his doctor, and asap.

Dear Bornagain,

I agree, your husband should not be upping his dosages without a doctor's approval. If possible, try to persuade him to take these new symptoms up with his doctor. In the meantime take care of yourself as well. Best wishes.

It seemed like I was manic the next day after, I took the Ambien. I wasn't sure, though.

Thanks Carmen.

In the other group I belong too, this guy took it, it caused him to go manic, sleep walk, destroy the bathroom, etc.. really screwed him up but good, hope your off that stuff Gypsy, I was thinking about the chantix for helping with the quitting but after all I have heard on here about it, no thanks, think I will be better off smoking.
