My BF and I finally saw the pdoc today for the first time!!! It's confirmed. He has BP II with mixed episodes. She said she wants to keep a close eye on him though bc he also displays some sx of BP I (mostly bc of the frequency/intensity of his hypomania). Not that any of that is good news but I'm sooo proud of him. This is finally a step in the right direction instead of him and I running in circles like we have been for the past three yrs. Now we know and can start to try to make it right. I felt so bad for him. I just love him and hope things get better soon. She prescribed lithium. She wants to start with a low dose at first since he's not in an acute episode. I'm really scared too. I hope the medicine will help and not make him feel "weird" or too tired or anything. I cannot thank all of you for your support. It honestly was the only thing that kept me going for a while. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again !!!! Jenn

Hi jenn14,

It's good to see that your hubby is getting help. Lithium is a great med, I am on it, and it has done so much for me. It might take a while to get his levels up, and he has to do labs. It has worked immediately for me.I feel focussed, and motivated. I am actually calm, too. Hang in there. it will get better, but it might take sometime for him to get stable. Keep us posted.

God Bless,Gypsy

Thank you Norma & Gypsy!!! Your support has given me much needed advice and strength thus far. Gypsy thank you SOOOO much for that about the lithium. I was a little scared about it bc I know it can have some bad side effects. That made me feel better. My BF will feel better too so I'll tell him youve had a good experience. He should be startin the med on Fri after we get the labs drawn. Thanks guys!!!!

Hey Jenn, that is wonderful news, I haven't taken lithium, but have heard others talk about it, and they have had wonderful results, it is also one of the most researched and widely used meds out there. Like Red and all have suggested, keep a eye on him, and let his doctor know if there are any major changes.

Hey Jenn and welcome to the group. I have been on lithium for 25 years with great results except for the times i stopped my meds and eventually crashed before going back on my meds. I can tell now if my levels get a little high i get nausea and extreme weakness - my pdoc thinks i may have been on this med a little too long so my dose is lowered and i go today to see if i can stay on lithium. So hang in there, get your levels drawn and see your pdoc.
