I guess I kinda have an odd question....My husband is bipolar and seems very accident prone. I don't know if things happen on pure accident or he subconsiously does things to get hurt or he just plain old does them on purpose........Example, Over the weekend we had an argument. He helped a friend move some furniture, which was fine. But one thing led to another and he ended up staying out late and lying with no regards to my feelings. Well we worked through things as we usually do, but the the last couple days he has said he has been feeling bad mentally. Yesterday was a bad day..just felt confused a lot and aggitated. Now today he calls me and says he has fallen and hurt his back...again. Does any of this sound familar or is this something that just my husband does? I don't know if he does things to take the attention off of his behavor or what. Anybody have any input? Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you guys.

It is hard to define what is bipolar characeristics....I have found that people blame a lot on someone being bipolar just to make excuses for bad behavior. Now if he is having mental confusion...that could be the bipolar...loss of concentration is one of the symptoms...call doctor and set up appointment before it gets worse...

Being bipolar and a walking accident waiting to happen, I can't say it is or isn't a trait of the bipolar. But using the bipolar to excuse bad behavior is a common trait of the bipolar, and isn't to be tolerated.

Have him fully checked out with his doctor, rule out any medical possibility that could cause his accidents, if there isn't anything, then you can look at it being a subconscious act of trying to get attention or take the focus off what he has done. Some folks are just plain out accident prone, so determining which is which is going to be a tough one.

Just remember, being bipolar is not a get out of jail free card for bad behavior, we know right from wrong and should be held responsible for our actions.

For months I was tripping over my own feet, falling up stairs and getting dizzy every time I turned my head. After a complete neuro. exam, I made the connection that it started just about the time I started Seroquil. Other drugs can cause blurry vision which was why I walked into walls.
