does anyone out there have trouble viewing themsleves in the future? whether far or near? I have trouble seeing where I may be a week from now let alone 20 yrs down the road. As a child I never envisioned my perfect wedding day or what I would be when I grew up. I have since gotten married and am a teacher (but looking for a new job). I just cannot seem to see anything down the road. I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same position, if this is a bipolar thing or something else.

I think that you are voicing something that all people think, don't think it is a bipolar thing.

Questioning what the future brings is something that I do...and the thing that drives me nuts, no matter what I envision....it never quite turns out the way I though it would. LOL

I have always had dreams, and hopes of being successful.

But when, I got diagnosed with bipolar, and discovered, i was disabled, that kind of put everything on hold. I see it as good, because you can live in the moment, and let go of any expectations. It ame be time for something new. I had that happen a few years ago, when, i ws looking for work.

I could not find anything, so, I thought, I would take a risk in trying to get work in something, I loved. I love landscaping. So, I applied to a company, and by god they hired me. It was really cool, because, the only experience, I had was from doing chores for my dad, and gardening at home.

I know, I am rambling...LOL

God Bless,Gypsy

most of the people I have spoken to are suprised when I tell them about this- they dont really know what to say. it kind of scares me that I cannot envision anything farther then the next day- i can envision what the future may hold for the other people in my life but not my own.

etech, this sounds like something that happens to my wife more in the depressive state. People with bipolar do not have the market cornered on depression... yet. I think we all reach this state at one time or another in our lives.

GOD BLESS

Etch....I don't know if it was the bipolar back then (I'm 58 ), but when I was a kid I couldn't see past the day I was in let alone tomorrow or in 20 years....

Etch, it is generally considered for the best that we live in the present, the future is constantly in flux, it changes all the time based on what we do today, there's nothing going on in the future you need to worry about at the moment, about the only time you would need to consider what will be happening in the future is if you are going to college now, you have to have a goal to aim for, are you attending school? is there something you would love to be doing today, that you have to have training for? Retirement is something you have to plan for, put a nest egg away for the future,

Red, I know you are good at this, what is the Bible scripture that talks about worrying about the future, something about don't worry about tomorrow as tomorrow has it's own set of problems, deal with todays? My husband likes to say there is no tomorrow, as when you wake up in the tomorrow it is already today..

I have trouble seeing where i will be this day, let alone tomorrow, things change all the time, I made plans to have Easter Dinner here at the house, came down with a cold shortly after making those plans and had to reschedule to keep from giving my mom, my cold... things change.

It just gets very depressing when everyone around you talks about where they see themselves in 5 or 10 years and i cannot even see next week. I know sometimes it is my depression speaking- sometimes it is because i cannot deal with my life in the now and that I do not want to be around for the later. Sometimes I feel like if I wasnt around I couldnt hurt anyone else or screw anything up

Dear Etch, you are right that is the depression talking...have you discussed this with doctor...you might need some help with this...

If you weren't around it would hurt a lot of people I bet, they would miss you. No one lives in a vaccuum. Your life touches the lives of others in many ways...that smile you give the check out lady at the grocery, may brighten her day more than you know. Or things you post here may make others think about things and make their lives better...we affect the world around us by being here, your life force is a positive thing in the world. And life is precious...especially yours. hugs, Norma

hey Etch, have you ever watched that old movie, a christmas time favorite? called It's a Wonderful life? stars Jimmy Stewart? if you haven't watched it, do so, it will give you a idea of how your being missing from your loved ones life can affect them..

People that say they can see where they will be in 5 or 10 years, are only expressing dreams, this might not be where they end up..only what they are hoping for, you too can find something you are hoping for, and work today towards getting there..
