Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if any of you out there would share with me your stories of work stability with your bipolar disorder.

I am bipolar, and am trying to figure out how to deal with this aspect of my issues. Persoanlly, I get very aggitated with people and things that don't merit my reaction. This makes it hard for me to stay loyal to a company I end up feeling is not loyal to me. There's a lot more to all of this, but bascially I have had a lot of issues with job stability.

What are your experiences?

Thanks,

Angela

I think if you found that funny you must know what I mean. Cookies and irritating behavior. Really rediculous and stupid things. It's pretty bad

Yes, bosses can be a pain. However, we have to respect them for the fact that they got where they are. They had to have something that they did right, or you & I would have their job. Right? Sometimes in life, ya gotta bite you tongue and look the other way and just do your work and go home.. I have gone through this with my kids several time..."NO mom, I ain't kissin nobody's ass!" Well that's the way it should be....but.....some bosses just want a little smooch!!!! lol

Love

Gloria

I can respect that. However, it really isn't my boss or bosses. I tend to get along with them very well because I have an incredible work ethic when I am committed to a company. What I am talking about is irrational irritability. Like someone brings in cookies, and it is just like nails on a chalkboard. I also had a very stable work history before I had my accident. My doc thinks the PTSD could have something to do with aggrivating my bipolar mania and depression. I don't have the issue with hodling my tongue because I internalize everything. I then make myself insane with rage that has nowhere to go and eventually manifests itself as mania or depression.

I know I need to deal with figuring out what I need to do for a living that is not regulated by people that I can get away from if need be. I am an artist (what bipolar isn't), and I am considering following my heart in that direction. Art is not just something I love, but it is the most therapeutic thing I could do for work. I don't know, we'll see.

If you like art you might want to consider working for a newspaper doing layouts...involves little interaction with people, and is a nice outlet for your artistic eye...most of them work at night when others are not there.

Murals for places are another way, because you can do that at night...just put together a portfolio...some interesting things...then you could visit contractors, architects, etc. Have a pamphlet and business cards made up...figure pricing on cost, paint, brushes, time involved...interested i have more

Hi Norma,

Thanks for the ideas. I will definitely consder that. I actually work for some news something or other that has to do with newspapers, but I am on leave right now. I don't do what you are talking about, but rather something more technical. In any case your ideas are great. If you have more infor, I am open to it.

Thanks,

Angela

Sure, the trick is to get someone to commission a mural....might take a lot of leg work, make sure they love it, if they want pink flamingos on the thing...then give it to them....references are the key. After a few you would be on your way. Now, what to live on in the meantime, is the problem...might want to keep the day job until established.

Just like going into any business...keep good records, pay taxes, and if you don't have insurance you will have to provide your own...I am talking about business insurance...the Small Business Administration Website has lots of information.

Oh my god! I am laughing so hard right now, thank you so much.

That is where the irrationality lies though. My thoughts in my head are really mean. I don't say what I think because I have learned better by this point. Like I said there is so much more to it that I couldn't put it all down here.

I am the happiest I have been in four years, or maybe longer. The drugs are working, and I am working on myself. The effects of the drugs are funny. I told my bf last night that I hope he gets some really good pants when I was saying goodnight. I typed in on messenger, but it's stuff like that that makes me laugh and have fun with this disorder.

Your humor is much appreciated!

Angela
