I am starting a New relationship and I still haven't told my partner that i am BP. I am scared to let them know since I lost my last partner because they didn't understand and weren't able to cope with my disorder. What and how should i bring it up to my New Partner.

poetress......why do you have to tell him right now??? GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO SEE IF YOU REALLY EVEN LIKE THIS GUY....please!!!! A year will tell...before then, there is no need for him to know, in my opinion.

I agree with Gloria to wait a little bit to see if it's really going to work but I wouldnt wait a year. Well when you feel comfortable enough to tell him & maybe it will take a year & maybe it wont. only you decide that. I know myself, i hate being blind-sided by anything. i say be upfront about it but only when youre ready. If it's meant to be, its meant to be. you will know if its right. and If he doesnt understand or does not want to learn about the disorder then he's not worth your time anyway. I found out 3months into it & its almost a year now. Good Luck xx

I too agree, dont rush it-wait until youre comfortable with him and see if you develope real feelings for him. If you do, I think you should be honest with him and share your TRUE self with him. THOSE THAT REALLY MATTER WONT MIND AND THOSE THAT MIND DONT REALLY MATTER. Gotta be true to you girl. If he dont getcha, someone else will. GOOD LUCK!!

I personally have beenable to tell my boyfriend of 5 yrs , I had bipolar, and was on meds. I also know another friend who was upfront with he fiance. I agree if you can't be honest, he, or she is not worth it.

I would be afraid that if, I didn't tell, they would think, I was hiding something from them.

But like the others said it's up to you. Whatever you feel comfortable with.

But, remember your mental health is a priority. If you don't do the things you need to do to take care of you illness, you wont beable to be available for the relationship.

God Bless,Gypsy

I have to agree with that Gypsy, your mental health HAS to be the priority and if anyone or thing in your life will hinder that you need to let it go.

Well ya know what...I feel like a real hypocrit.......I did not tell my first hubby of 20 years about my childhood or the BPD. I have regretted that badly!!!! I told this one everything straight up, one of the first things I did after I knew I liked him a lot. Well we've now been married for 12 years so either he is OK with it...or he is too scared to piss me off by leaving !!! lololol Anyway poetress, do what your heart tells ya girl. It doesn't lie too often

Love,

Gloria
