What exactly is Level 2 bipolar? I did not realize there was more than one type. If you can enlighten me, this just might answer some lingering questions I have of myself and some things. Thanks!

Leslie: When I was diagnosed 2 years ago I was told Level 2 also. I was told that this is when you become manic also. I gamble when I am manic.

The difference between bi-polar 1 and 2 is the level of cycles. Meaning type 1 has extreme highs and lows with no real leveling off point, now type 2 still has highs and lows but most people stay in a hypomanic state. Meaning mixed mania and depression. Now I may not have this exactly right but its pretty close. I am diagnosed bi-polar 2 with ptsd. And this is how my pdoc and therapist explained the differences to me.

Hello,

I am bipolar 1 with Ptsd. I go really high and really low. I do have some mixed mania, and low level depression, too.

I take meds for everything.lol To keep me in the middle lane.

I am on Lamictal for depression and mixed mania, I am on Buspar for anxiety, and PTSD and Topamax for mixed mania and depression, and Abilify for the extreme mania and psychosis ie;paranoia, suspicion, voices, halucinacions, and snapping, and running. I am a rapid cycler. I still cycle but the meds help it not be so extreme.

I hear that alot of the same meds work for the two different types of bipolar.

So, you have to try different ones to see what works for you. You can research them on different web sites, too. Even the people with the different types of bipolar have symptoms that are more bothersome than others. There are biplolar 1 people who are more angry, than others and bipolar 2s that are more depressed than others. It also depends on your body. So, anyway, I hope this helps.....Thanks,Gypsy

God Bless,Gypsy

Hi, Again,

I take the Lamictal (200mg), and Abilify(2.5mg), and topamax(50mg) 2times a day, and the buspar(15) 3 times a day. Its for PTSD. I have a lot of anxiety.

My husband takes Abilify to help with irritability and Wellbutrin to help w/ depression (and to alleviate the fatigue caused by the Abilify). He too is BP2. In the past he has been on Prozac and Lithium. Hope this helps.
