My son is 20 and cannot sleep. He is bipolar and has panic as well. He takes depakote and lithium as of the last dr appt. He eats meletonin, has taken Roserome. Took Seroquel er and regular, all that did was made him eat and then once he was asleep, slept forever. He of course gets real angry when he doesn't sleep. He can go days without sleep. Does anyone else have this problem and what do yu do? Thanks, tdc

TDC, welcome to the group.

Get him back into the pdoc ASAP. There are lots of medicines out there that they have at their disposal.

If it gets extreme take him to the ER!

Glad you joined the group. Lots of good people here that are very helpful. Feel free to ask questions, leave answers, vent and make friends. There is someone on-line here around the clock.

You are not alone, we are here for you.

God Bless

ReD

Hi and WELCOME TDC, My son is bipolar and when he can't sleep we have a problem....he is 25 and lives on the property with us...so I can tell if he stays awake...when he is manic he can't sleep and he gets worse...Red had some good advice...see the pdoc...and if things get worse go to the emergency room and stay with him til he gets help.

Keep posting here, there is a world of support for you....norma

hi, tdc-my most recent stint of not sleeping is 7 days. i finally slept last night with trazodone. all of my meds are going great and i feel well and not manic (i KNOW when i'm manic), but i just don't want to/can't sleep. it does start making you angry, i know. meditation will work for me with the sleep meds, but i have to make myself meditate. there are times when i just don't want to sleep. i have terrible nightmares and then it's hard for me to get up, which ruins my morning/my kid's mornings. i figured this out through therapy. maybe that would help?

peace.

Hi Tdc,

Welcome. I see you found us. I have had problems sleeping, too. I was given Ambien. I also take Buspar for anxiety, and it also relaxes me, so, I sleep better. I have been getting more excercise, lately.

We are all here for you.

God Bless,Gypsy

I was put on Restoril to sleep a few years ago and nothing else had worked for me. Ihad taken everything including serequel and everything made me more up than down to sleep. I did find it a problem though. I don't know if it was it or my other meds or what but one morning decided to take six of them instead of my other meds. Docs said they don't know how I made it to work. But I did and passed out shortly after. I don't recomend doing that by the way. Carcoal is nasty. I was miserable for days.

I forgot to say in that that before I took that many they had worked like nothing ever before or after.
