Hi everyone, my hubby has finally agreed to take medication!!!!!!!!!

You can hardly imagine how happy I am. It's only been three years of a nasty man. Anyway, to get the wheels rolling, he wanted me to make a list of medication for him so he has something to take to the doctor. I am doing research now ,but I was wondering if you could tell me what is working for you, just in case I miss any. He is rapid cycling with severe anger, and rage. He has depression and mania. I'm not sure of the official diagnosis, but I know it's rapid cycling(probably BP2). He has tried trileptal in the past but complained that it blocked his creativity and made him like a zombie. This is completely inaccurate, but that's how he felt. Are any of you having sucess with medication that you feel like it does not affect your creativity?

Thank you ahead of time for your help.

My hubby now medicated things going better. I have been diagnosed as BiPolar type 1(he is type 2). I am breastfeeding our 4 month old, (who is so sweet) and feel the need to take medicine. I was diagnosed about 6 months ago. I refuse to stop nursing, but feel very aggitated and overwhelmed. Did I mention our very demanding and slightly jealous three year old? I am trying a more osteopathic view(eating right, vitamins, exercising, spirituality etc.)It's not that I don't want medicine, I just want to buy some time before pumping my body full of chemicals that are proven to pass through the breast milk. Any advice is welcome.

Hi there,

Your husband seems to have a layered personality problem, with bipolar thrown in! You must be one hell of a support system! I have rapid cycling bipolar disorder with delusions of grandeur thrown in. Because I live in England the drug names etc are probably different . I am on

Effexor XL (venlafaxine) 275mg Slow Release daily for depression

Depakote (valproate semisodium) 1000mg daily mood stabiliser

High quantity of concentrated cod liver oil for Omega 3 which helps mend and stablise brain cell membranes and stuff

What is super about the drugs I am on is they don't ruin my creativity, and don't seem to have any side effects except for the lowered libido which is common with most antipsychotic drugs.

Hope this helps. Best of luck. Try to get your husband to sign up here.

Hi again,

I am wondering a bit about Lithium. Over here in England Lithium is used as a 'last resort drug' because it can have rather odd side effects, including the dulling of creativity - though this is specific to the individual. It's one of the reason why Stephen Fry (our best loved intellectual wit) who is really terribly biplar, he will not take it because he's is too afraid it will take away the very things that the mania provide - his wit and creativity! Worth a thought. xx

Hey Nesya: I take Lamictal, Geodon, and Loxapine. They work for me, but your P-Doc will have to find the right combo that works. It does not seem to stop me writing in my poetry book, but it slows me down in other things...I wish I could help you out in that regard...
You can live with the bipolar disorder, not let bipolar disorder ruin you...

Hi I take Lamictal Lexapro Risperdal and Klonopin. I like them all but the Lamictal was a life saver.

Hi Neysa Glad to hear that the hubby is willing to get help, I am just on the lamictal, and for me it has been a wonder drug.. others here have tried just about everything out there, but the biggest thing to remember is that each person reacts differently to the medications, what might work for one, might not for another.
