Hi everyone,

My hubby was prescribed Wellbutrin yesterday for Bipolar II after going into a hypomanic cycle immediately after being put on Adderall. He had taken Depakote for several months (before the Adderall) but gained 20 lbs and got tired of being sluggish and lazy, unmotivated. It was great for the rest of us though because he was calm and rational. Anyone heard of Wellbutrin alone for BPII? Also, I'm not a doctor but I was shocked when he came home with Adderall and was unsure where this doc was coming from. Any info anyone can provide is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi mehere,

I know Welbutrin is for depression, and bipolar 11 people have more depression, and mixed mania. So that is maybe why he was prescribed it. I personally can't take anti depressants. They make me manic. Don't be afraid to question the doctor about this. If becomes more manic, he might need a mood stablizer, too.

God Bless,Gypsy

AHHH More manic again??? I've been dealing with that for 2 weeks and already I secretly have bags packed for me and the kids plus an escape plan. I cannot handle more manic. I appreciate your response though Gypsy. I would talk to his doctor but hubby won't consent to it.

Hey Me, glad to hear that you are ready to take proactive steps, if you can catch your hubby in a receptive mood, get him to sign the papers to allow you to talk with his doctor, if he won't there is nothing that will keep the doctor from listening to you, he just can't share his knowledge, keep the bags stashed and be ready to do what you have to do..

Like gypsy said, the wellbutrin is a antidepressant, bipolar 2's suffer more in the depressed side than the manic,

Just be careful -- I had serious problems with Wellbutrin greatly "enhancing" my irritability and anger problems. If he tends to have those, please watch carefully!

i take adderall too. it's used to "augment" or boost the effectiveness of the other meds-anti depressants and mood stabilizers, as well as to help with concentration and focus, which is a major problem for me. i love my adderallSmile

Hello,

How long have you been taking Adderall? 've just started 4 weeks ago and I feel some of the effects have worn off. I have been taking 60 mg. of prozac for 20 years.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond.

Be well!

Nicholas

I took wellbutrin and all the time I was on it I was manic. I wanted to have sex all the time I did not care where or when but sex. I also felt so anxious that I had to call my doc and tell him. He got me off over the phone with no questions asked after I told him my stories.

Well Hello. I'm new here but have done the forums before.

I'm currently taking wellbutrin as of a week ago. Have an appointment today with my pdoc. Now this is just my experience and it differs for everyone. I started at 100mg ( Diagnosis as of 14yrs. Bipolar 2, Sever Anxiety Disorder and Borderline personality disorder - not a very good name but explains alot). At first i was really excited about the med. It had a lot of benefits and sounded like something i've been waiting for my whole illness. So i decided to give it a try. Last week i started weaning myself off of paxil with the blessing of my pdoc (little joke) and started my new med. At first i felt great, i had energy i haven't had in forever, I finally felt that a part of my brain had finally been woken up. I started things and finished them, I felt very creative and really happy. I started having trouble sleeping, then started to feel depressed again,(more pron to crying) and thinking negative. Both of these feelings were happening at once. There are a lot of factors here. New med, i quit smoking and i weaned off my paxil. Oh and the really good feeling, duh, I was having my famous high. Dammit. So I'm a little disappointed. I was really hopeful. Today i go see my pdoc and will discuss everything. I'll give you and update on what is what.

I'm a firm believer in giving my all to being well one day. I'm willing to try any treatment no matter what the cost. I wish to be well one day so i wish the same for everyone else in this journey. Thanks for your ear. Ermm
