Ok, so I'm watching tv and on comes another commercial, this time for cymbalta. First, we've got people sitting with their heads in their hands, tears streaming down their faces, ignoring their families...basically looking a lot like many of us look when that whole depression thing gets real bad. Then, they pop a pill and they're exercising and losing weight and going on dates and playing football in the park-all within the scope of a 30 second commercial.

This is a big reason society thinks we can all just "pull ourselves up by our boot straps and get on with it". They don't show any side effects. They don't show what happens when you have to take cymbalta plus 14 other meds, they don't show when it stops working and you have to change meds. It's like this and every other psychiatric drug is a miracle just waiting to happen, if we'd all just get on the bandwagon.

It makes me so mad. If it could just be that easy, or at least if people who don't know it's not that easy wouldn't see those commercials and think it's that easy...it makes me so mad.

Anyone else?????

I am with you. Bet they don't show a manic phase. Yes they do make it look easy and it is not. I personally think the med commercial that is a hoot is the male enlargment one, hope I am not offending anyone.

Yeah, I get bothered by those commercials, too. When, I used to be against meds, the commercials would read off all the side affects, and I would think the side affects would kill you faster than the illness...lol.

The drug company commercials annoy the heck out of me too. I wish they would go back to banning them, they used to not be allowed on TV. The male enhancement commercial annoys me too, gives the immage of mens only worry being "erectile dysfunction" (not discounting this as not being a medical issue). As long as we can fix that the world is just a peachy place.

How many people go running to the doctor to get medications just because they saw a commercial on TV about it. BLOODY BRAIN WASHING! OK I will get off of my soap box now.

Commercials I do like are the ones that are informing people about medical problems. I have even seen one with a guy form NCIS telling people about Bipolar Disorder.

Sorry for the rant.

You guys make me feel soooo good. Red, you're not ranting, it's all true and we all get to bitch a little, especially if it's funny and lets off steam. I love when they say in the viagra commercials "If you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours, seek medical attention as this could represent a serious medical condition"...ya' think? The first time I heard that one, I thought I was watching a Saturday Night Live commercial. I stop watching tv for years at a time. I just went back to it this last time a couple months ago. I see that drug commercials are all that are left. I'm with you, Red. Ban them again.

Norma, quit worrying you're offending. You make me laugh every time I read your cute jokes.

rofl.. Zinnia, my brother had to take a med that came with that warning, his doctor told him about it and my brother said " that's a problem???" lol, the doctor countered with your thing will fall off..

Your right about all the commercials, I dislike them too, the ED one's with that Bob guy smiling all over the place, and his wife following him around with a smile on her face makes me want to pop them both.. I am with you Red, ban them all..

The ED commercials are hilarious. " . . . for longer thatn 4 hours, contact your doctor." I wouldn't need my doctor for that. A couple of nurses maybe, but not my doctor.

I agree, zinnia. We can't just "snap out of it," as the commercials definitely imply.

I also hate the ED commercials! I'm sorry, but I don't want hubby to be able to "perform" for hours on end. I normally don't talk about this kind of stuff, but my goodness! Anything more than an hour and it's time to watch "Everybody Loves Raymond" or something.
