Can anyone who is on Depakote give me information on how they are doing on it? I have been on several meds, as far as mood stabilizers go I have taken Lithium, Geodon, Seroquel and am on Lamictal right now. The Lithium worked but I gained so much weight and wanted off of it. The Geodon and Seroquel made me so tired I couldn't function. I just can't seem to find the right combinations. I was diagnosed Bipolar II in 2003 and have been working on getting the right combination ever since. I have been in and out of the hospital a number of times since 2000. At the beginning of this year I was feeling great and I thought I was cured and was no longer ill so I took myself off of my meds slowly and did good for a few months and then crashed and ended up in the hospital again. So if anyone can shed some light on my situation I would sure appreciate it.

When I was on Depakote it made me gain weight just as the lithium did. You might want to talk to your P-Doc about readjusting the Geodon to a lower dose like 60mg.-120mg. a day. (Not knowing what dosage she/he had you on prior.) My P-Doc is readjusting my Lamictal around where it would not make me sleepy. Also try taking the Geodon at night where you would not be so sleepy in the morning. Talk to your P-Doc about it...I wish there was some anti-psychotic that did not make us gain unwanted pounds. Also, with the Depokote you will need blood tests every 6 months to 1 year as long as you are on it...it makes sure its not poisoning your liver and kidneys. Good luck with it and hope it works for you...
You can live with the bipolar disorder, not let bipolar disorder ruin you...
