Hi,

I am wondering if others spend a good bit of time in the day, being aware or thinking about what mood they are currently in? I seem to do great deal of this most of the day.

Had a couple of days when meds were I think correct, but changed afer a couple of days and again thinking about my mood. And did I ever enjoy this! Not thinking about me and how my mood was.

Is this common to Bipolar Disorder? Does anyone know the answer to this?

Tar,

JennyWren

I find since i've joined mdj i'm more observant about how i'm feeling and especially since my pdoc reduced the Lithium and wants me to keep track of my moods daily. Find it hard to keep track, don't feel like writing anything out (he said to keep it really brief). I've been journaling about a few hypomanic/anxiety episodes i've had over the past 2 wks to discuss with him (in case I forget what happened, have a short memory). Wink

I think about my moods 24/7 when I start to rapid cycle. I keep track of my moods in a journal so that I don't have to worry about remembering every single thing that happened to me before my next pdoc and tdoc appointment. I keep my mood journal stored on my computer. I have it open everyday, so whenever I need to make notes, it's right there and I can quickly jot down anything that happens.

I'm somewhat aware. Apparently it's a really good thing to be aware and present. I have a mood chart to help me.

I am becoming more aware of my emotions because I am working in a DBT self help book. One of the exercises is to describe your emotion that you are feeling. The book says that when you describe it you are putting the emotion in a container and therefore controlling it. I also have a mood chart that I keep.

I am self aware enough to know when I am getting in trouble. For example, at work I've had to go to my boss and tell her that I needed to get away from the public because my anger/rage was ratcheting up. I don't generally focus on moods all the time though. I am just aware in a backdoor sort of way, if that makes sense.

Being I just found forums about Bipolar and support a month and half ago. I am sort of overkilling it but I am sure as time goes on I will be a little less obsessive.

The thing I really appreciate is remembering how to recognize the emotion I am having, give it a name and then find tools to deal with it. I forgot about that though I knew about doing this years ago.

This forum and others have really helped me but again I need to slow down a bit and quit the constant how am I doing now stuff. Smile

Writing down my moods sounds like a good idea then I can let them go.

Take Care

Celeste

Ever since I joined mdj and began research on Bipolar I'm always analyzing my moods. I don't keep a journal about them but maybe I should.

I always announce to my fiance when I feel like I'm in a certain mood or in a episode. Now after 2 years my fiance is able to tell me when he believes I'm in a certain episode/mood. He can also tell if I've missed doses of my medication because I act differently. Which is very helpful.

I was very aware of my mood until my mood stabilized. I was very diligant about tracking my moods and everything. Now that I am stable, I hardly think about my mood at all. I just feel good most of the time and the thought just no longer crosses my mind. It did take a long time for me to get to this point, but I am here now. There is hope out there.
My best day is worse than the worst day you have ever imagined.
