I asked my mom If any one on her side of the family had bipolar, she didn't know what that was. So I asked if there was in history of mental illness? She replied why who wants to know I told her I was trying to find out my doctor had asked about my medical history. (Well!! Idon't believe so tah!) like she was ofended.

I asked my Dad he said I don't think so I know we have a history of beening stupid but not mentally ill. you better get a second opinon lol. that about all I could find out. Am I the only one with a family like that. JustPeachey

No peachy you are not the only one with a family like that, mine is too, I am a diabetic, and I didn't find out there was diabetes in the family tree till after I was diagnosed, I asked Mom about the bipolar, too, dad had passed so he was out of the information line, but according to my Mom, we never had any one with mental illness, they do say that the illness isn't only caused by having family members, with it, it is also caused by trauma's and just plain ole chemical imbalances.. the likely hood is that you do have someone in the family tree that does have it, but back in your Mothers time, they probably didn't know what it was and if they did they didn't talk about it, I've just recently been through that fight with my mom, I am working and had to ask for special considerations at the job, and she was all about don't tell them about the bipolar, just tell them you are mildly depressed, lol, pleeeze, that doesn't begin to cover what I go through.. thankfully I was able to explain the need for a stable schedule without having to go through all the ugly details, but had I been unable I would have told the truth, as I told my mom, the days of not talking about it and the days of locking people away that have a mental illness are over.
