MDJunction to me

jaguarandcubs"MDJ is an integral part of my everyday life. Since joining in 2010, I have met so many amazing people. It is truly incredible to be able to share good times and not so good times with others who face the same health challenges. And MDJ has support groups for every condition I have. I don't know of anywhere else that can offer that. I love that I can learn from others as well as offer my own experiences for others to learn from." (jaguarandcubs)

Hey Guys - have any of you had ECT? My meds just aren't doin' it for me, and my pdoc is suggesting ECT. Of course the first thing that comes to my mind are those 1970's movies, attempting to portray the treatment that might assist those with Schizophrenia, administering to them ECT - then the patient completely loses their memory for a year or so, then has to basically 're-start' their life over again. I have done some research, and my research on the effects of ECT are a pole apart from what Hollywood projects... Nonetheless, I am still a bit scared to have it done - my Wife and family are ten times more worried than I am... I just want this suffering to be over - and I am willing to do anything to make it stop... Help.

I had ECT over a year ago. I didn't really have the bad memory loss that most people have. A little loss at first, like what I had for breakfast, stuff like that. I have come a long way since my ECT treatment. I was depressed at first, but the meds have helped immensely. I looked at it as a jump start to my brain, so my brain could absorb the chemicals it needed to maintain my emotions. It was a little scary and my family (esp my mom) were very concerned for me. But I pulled through. I would recommend it to anyone who needs it. I had 6 treatments and they were all unilateral. I did so well, I was able to go home on the last day of my treatment. I would research it if you are thinking about it, but my opinion is that it was a life saver.

Thank you so very much for your response! It certainly helps ease my mind; I also will be going for six-treatments. I have friend who had the same things to say, which you shared with me: being a 'life-saver.' Thanks again! Be at peace, Dragonfligh

I have received six treatments, however, my pdoc is prescribing nine; after the first six I am still feeling depressed, helpless - hopeless. What else (PRINCESS421) have you done to abate the pain? I am feeling so lost these days... I was a stockbroker, and am now facing very strong legal issues - I just don't know where to go from here - Lost without a compass, Bill
