It would be fantastic if at work I could not be bipolar. It would be great if I could just do my job and go home. That is of course, not the case. Instead work freaks me out in one way or another and I go outside to smoke and hopefuly calm down. At least that is what I DID. I quit smoking about two weeks ago and now I don't known what to do with myself. Any suggestions... How does everyone else keep themselves from sitting on the floor crying when that's what seems like the only thing to do? I'd be happy to hear from anyone.

Thanx

Hi,Here, congrats on the no smoking, that is something I haven't tried to do in a while, need to try again, are you on medications? if not see your doctor, they might need to adjust if you are on them, in the mean time, go out for a smoke break, just don't take the smoke with you, stepping outside can be soothing just by it's self, close your eyes, feel the sun on your skin, the soft breeze, listen to the wind.. all those will help you.. if you have too, get yourself some lollipops, one of the hardest things about giving up smoking is now what do we do with our hands, we have become habituated to having something in our hands all the time, a pencil will help with the need to have something..

Carmen,

Thank you for responding. I am taking medication but I am in the midst of adjusting doses and getting my levels back up beacuse I was "noncompliant" again. Your suggestions make a lot of sense and I think they will really help. Thank you again.

how about some type of mp3 player? music might help you calm down and forget you're at work.

mcat,

Thank you for responding!

We have a public music player at work and when I can choose what we play it really helps. Music is the one thing I find consistantly beauiful. Unfortunetly I am not allowed my own iPod or music player. Thank you for the suggestion. Music is my light.

It's weird but since I've stopped smoking I've been more concerned with my overall well-being and am taking my meds far more consistantly than before. I am feeling really optimistic about my continued compliance. I am just really hoping that my optimism is well grounded and not the beginning of some manifestation of my illness. Thank you for your responses. It's good to know there are people out there who are willing to help when they can and who know how I feel.
