"Bipolar disorder" (VickiL1219)

MDJunction to me

aTinaL"To me, Mdjunction comes down to motivation. The support and information I have found here motivated me to take a very proactive stance regarding my illness. This led me to find medication and doctors that are giving me my life back.
More important than even the motivation, though, is the friendship I have found at MDJ. I have made some of the best friends of my entire life right here in this group. Even though most of us have never met, it feels as if we have known each other for years.
If Angels walk among us, and I believe that they do, most of them are here at MDJ.

I was having a fitful night's sleep (I'd consumed too much caffeine) when I was suddenly awakened to the loud smash of broken glass. It sounded like it had happened in my bedroom. I got up and looked all over, but nothing was broken; outside it was calm and my car was fine. More telling, my normally OCD schnauzer watch dogs who would howl at a bunny rabbit -- forever protecting the princess (me) -- remained completely undisturbed. Sooooooo, I think this noise happened in my head, and it woke me up!

Is this normal? I don't usually experience head noise. Could it be some weird sleep manifestation, or is this an exciting new chapter of bipolar??? This has never happened to me before.

Thx,

Zadie

Okay, I looked this up: Apparently during Hypnagogia (the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep -- "threshold consciousness") you can experience lucid dreaming, hallucinations, out of body experiences, sleep paralysis, etc. About these hallucinations: They are often auditory and can be "loud noises, such as crashes and bangs". Some people call it "Exploding Head Syndrome" lol!

Then I did way too much research, enough to make me anxious. It's not clear why this happens, but it might be the result of a sudden movement of the middle ear or eustachian tubes. Or it might be be due to a minor seizure in the temporal lobe (where nerve cells for hearing are located). Once I read THAT I thought FML!!! I don't need any more problems. I'm young. This sucks.

Are you BP 1? If you are that could come with psychotic feastures and all you were doing was hallucinating. I notice that you are taking Geodon. Maybe you need an increase. If it only happened once Im sure thats not needed but if it keeps happening I would talk to your pdoc.

I have BP 1 with psychotic features and when I am off medication I hear hallucinate in every way possible. Sometimes I have breakthrough psychosis but that usually goes away within a couple of hours.

I just noticed in your signature that you are BP 1. That explains the situation you are in.

Bipolar I with psychotic features.

Lamictal 300mg
Latuda 160mg
Ativan 2mg as needed
Prazosin 4mg (Nightmares)
Percocet 5mg x 5 a day (Severe Headaches)
Oxycontin 20mg Twice a day (Severe Headaches)

I have actually had this happen during broad daylight while on the phone. The first time it happened, I was maybe 11 years old and I was talking to my friend on the phone. I swear to you, it sounded like the hugest window breaking ever. SO loud!

And a few nights ago, my mom and my brother had something happen. Neither of them have a mental illness. My brother (age 21) went to wake my mom up because he was awake and heard a window break. When he got to her, she was awake and had heard it too, it had woken her up.

I have no idea what it is or what causes it, but I think it's a normal phenomenon that occurs more frequently than anyone might think. There has to be some cause for it, but I don't claim to know. All I know is that random sounds like that don't scare me anymore, because it appears to be normal.
