Yeah, my thoughts actually. I was going to ask the doctor when I see her in a couple of weeks.

No it is not. I really do wonder about the long term effects. I mean I'm fine now, but what happens if my liver levels go up or something else happens to my body. Then I have to start all over again. How long with this combo last me? I wonder about that all the time.

goatman-i was on 450 of wellbutrin and it helped but when i went up to 600, it was like the revelation. i don't know where you live but it's cold, dark and snowy here and i think in winter, i need that massive dose. without it, i'm sunk and wellbutrin is the only anti-depressant i can take so it's good that it helps.

as far as the long term effects, i used to worry about it theoretically, but since i've had the initial symptoms of tardive dyskinisia, always one of my worst fears, and have had to go down in dose with my haldol to stop it, it's been so much more real. those symptoms-no short term memory for random 12 hour periods, buzzing in my ears, feeling like i had parkinson's disease on the inside but not shaking at all on the outside, feeling like i had the emotional maturity of an 8 year old and the inability to drive, among others, really slammed it home. i expect that eventually, these meds will do some damage, but what can i do? stop taking them? no way. i can't live without them so i guess i just have to accept some things and work with my pdoc to make the best of them.

and you're right. it's not fair but it is us.

I agree with z. Even though I'm not on the meds that have been discussed in this thread, I am on 2 mood stabilizers (one of them being Topamax which I take for migraines), a dual acting mood stabilizer/antipsychotic and an anti-depressant. I've found that all of them seriously impair my short term memory. This has been the case ever since I started taking BP meds in 2006. I'm not happy about it, but if this is what it takes to maintain some degree of stability, so be it.

I worry about diabetes more than my liver. Zyprexa messes with blood sugar and has been know to cause diabetes. It runs in my family and I am a prime candidate for it. Both types 1 & 2 are all through my family.
