I have been hospitalized countless times for mania, depression, and suicide attempts. Twice in the last 6 mo. Does anyone else have to go to the psych hospital sometimes? Blink Silly

I've been hospitalized 10 times. They were all in a 4.5 year period. Most of my hospitalizations were for mixed mania, one for regular mania and a couple for bipolar depression. In the last 3 years I've stayed out of the hospital because of the care and brilliance of my pdoc. Once when he tried eliminating Geodon I almost went full blown manic, but a return to Geodon and additions to another med calmed it just in time. He's very reluctant to lower or eliminate any of my meds.
Bipolar 1, Simple Partial Seizures, and migraines

Psychiatric meds:

Lithium ER (900 mg)*Tegretol XR (1400 mg)*Lamictal (100 mg)*Geodon (160 mg)*Navane (5 mg)*Seroquel XR (100 mg)*Klonopin (.5 mg)

Ativan 1 mg "as needed" (I rarely take it.)*Seroquel regular 50 mg "as needed" (Only if I'm getting elevated.)

Other meds:

Propranolol (40 mg)*Levothyroxine (150 mcg)

My mix is side effect friendly for me.

Lots of times. Probably 15 times in the last 15 years. The last year alone, I've done partial four different times.

Partial works better for me than inpatient. I like the structure of it; it gets me through what's going on, plus having the doctor right there at all times to monitor meds is great. I always go to partial for a long time.... average stay is a week but I'm there 3-4 weeks at a time.

I'm not bipolar, I HAVE bipolar. My disease does not define me!

Mixed Bipolar, rapid cycling (several times a day)
ADHD
GAD
Geodon 40mg at night
Trileptal 300mg twice a day
Straterra 18mg mornings
Klonopin 0.5mg as needed - rare these days! :)

alot of people with BP will end up there at some point in time. Not all but alot. I've been real close to going but always ended up coming out of it. It's a safe place to get better with no outside issues stressing you.

My friend has always told me that when he's in there he wants to go home but when he gets home he wants to go back.

250 mg Lamictal
50 mg Seroquel

Survived sexual abuse, severe bullying, armed robberies, car accidents, one pull of the trigger and more....sometimes it's minute by minute....day by day and just trying to give my 100% to the kids.

Great posts! Makes me feel like I'm not alone or the only one in and out of the hospital. In the last year my Bipolar has become very bad. But right now I'm on some good meds and my psychiatrist is great. When I went into the psych hospital he became my psychiatrist. So he's there for me in and out of the hospital, I really like that. Thanks everyone for commenting. Smile

Look, I went through this whole "psychiatry is toxic" thinking already. Right now my combo of meds is pretty good. So good in fact Im looking forward to going back to work after 6 years. I'm not saying pills don't mess you up because I had one that made me almost commit suicide. But without this "medication game" to find the right combo, I wouldn't be where I am today. I went through a period of time where I was doing great and thought " I don't need my meds". That's crazy...because I'm doing so good because of the meds. Don't come here and try to turn people against their medication and Doctor. This is a place for understanding and relating to one another. Not a place to start a revolt against the medical community. Your not helping anyone here, especially yourself.
