I can not take this anymore!!! It seems to just keep getting worse.. EVERYTHING that is reported is depressing! CDC security, Colorodo wildfires and children left in hot cars for hours! I REALLY have to stop watching the news altogether.. How does one do this?

I read all the time or I have the news on for a couple hours EVERY morning.Sad

I am not a doctor but I feel like one after I stay at a Holiday Inn. jk! ;)

I'm an Advocate

People will probably think this is terrible, but I simply don't watch network news anymore, ESPECIALLY at dinnertime or night, before going to bed. I find it overly dramatic and too stimulating. It keeps me up or gives me nightmares.

I prefer to listen to the news on the radio in the morning or at noon. Five or 10 minutes of headlines is enough to stay informed. My boyfriend works in an environment where they keep the television on all day and tuned to news channels, so he usually tells me about big stories, anyways, omitting the violence and gore.

I prefer political news, which I used to get on cable TV. But we no longer have cable. So now I get that on radio shows during the day.

How do you stop watching television network news? Just turn off the TV, tune to another channel that doesn't have news, pop a movie in, listen to music, etc.

Just remember the motto of the media; "Bad news sells and terrible news sells better". It's now just a business and jounalistic integrity has been shoved aside in the chase for the almighty advertising dollar and ratings.

Just remember for every piece of bad news reported there are 100 incidents of someone stopping to help someone, a firefighter saving a life or someone smiling and saying "Good day!" to a stranger without wanting anything in return.

"Projecting the worst is a prescription for anxiety." Uppity

I agree with you both that I should find something different to do. Thought about joining a gym and going in the morning when I would normally be having my coffee and watching the tv. I do also agree that there are way more good news not being reported so they can get those ratings!

Got up in such a good mood and the racing thoughts are driving me nuts after my morning ritual of news, reading internet and coffee. I cried after hearing al that CRAP on the tv and turned it off! how does one cope when you just don not want to bother family and friends with such bull sh*t?

I just feel the news is doing something to my psychy. Does it bother any of you at anytime?? The p-doc did explain that he feels I am in a aggitated manic state at my last visit last week...

thought about going in for more intense treatment but we are going on vacation soon, not sure I would be out of hospital in time to go...

Just wondering how to adjust my internet so the news does not come up on my home page as I am not a computer wiz. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all! Smile

Sorry for dumping all this on you guys (my friends)... I am seriosly considering totally revamping everything I do right down to even going caffeine free coffee and beverages. Ok I am done going on and on this morning! Love you guys , you are the BEST!

i know just what you mean, hornedhalo...

my mother has a 'news habit'- certain shows she tunes into each gay around dinner time and while i enjoy spending time with her, those programs really upset me.

i find it much easier to get my 'news fix' by reading the morning paper. i get up, take my meds (including my coffee and my smoke) and read the news i feel like- and ignore the stuff i don't need to know about (car crashes, etc).

it lets me decide which stories i read and/or follow up online... it's also QUIET... much easier on my nervous system and my world view than the force feeding that comes with TV.

Bipolar 2 with a shot of Aspergers and a touch of Agoraphobia/Citalopram, Lithium and Dextroampheta Sulfate, Caffeine, etc...

if what i say makes sense to you, you might want to bear in mind that i'm mentally ill.

Hi Tylerflies2, It seems so odd to say this, but, I have had absoutely no compassion or sympathy for one of my friends problems and this is very concerning for me. When I explain to pdoc he says that that is just the symptoms and to not let it get to me . pdoc said I am in a aggitated state and it too will pass. But, this mornin I got so overwhelmed with all that coming at me at once I just snapped and started to cry.. Just going to have to make some changes is. Thanks Smile

Dugg, I agree that I should not have so much stimulation at once that early in the morning. I read the internet news while I watch GMA. Like I have said some huge changes are going to have to be made so I do not have these outside interfereces.. Sorry if I did not get the spelling correct on these posts! Again, Thanks Smile

I've pretty much given up on the news altogether. I hate feeling uniformed, but the constant downers on the news are even worse. I used to read the paper every day and watch the evening news, but I don't any more because I don't need more bad news when I'm already depressed that may trigger a crash. This year is especially bad and will get even worse because it's an election year. I used to get pretty fired up about politics, but my priorities changed after my bipolar started trying to run my life for me. Now I just can't get up the energy to care much. I already know who I'm going to vote for, I'm not crazy about him but I figure he's at least better than the other guy, and it would be really nice not to have to spend months hearing more and more about it. I have bigger problems than who gets elected, and no matter who wins I still have to live my life.
