Does anyone have an adult child who is both bipolar and narcissisic? I'm going crazy with my 34 year old son. We struggled with him from the time he was 3 years old til now. He steals, lies, makes fun of people, accuses us, doesn't have a decent job, takes all kinds of pills, hangs around with degenrates who he idolizes, but has a charming side as well. I always end up enabling him either because I feel sorry for him or because whatever he's done causes problems for us financially. HELP!!!

Hi Dianne, and welcome to the group.

You might also want to join the bipolar in the family group. I think you'll find people in your situation there.

Please don't hesitate to PM me or any other group leader.

My opinions are just opinions, and should be taken as such. I am not an expert on medicines or BP disorder.

Welcome to the group. What you are desribing is a very disturbed individual. Don't enable him but try and get him some help. If he gets into trouble let him take responsibility for his actions.
You are not drunk unless you have to hang on while lying on the floor.

Thank you for you input. He is very disturbed however he goes to a psychiatrist who gives him too much medication....those I don't approve of. He won't accept any suggestions or even consider going to a talk therapist. I'm at my wits end trying to do damage control.

Hi Dianne,

Sound like you are having a lot of trouble with your son. Are you sure of his diagnosis??? It sounds like he definitely has a touch of borderline personality disorder.

My only advice would be to understand that you can not change him. He is the only one who will make changes, when he wants to. If you want him to do talk therapy, make it a condition of whatever he wants from you. If he won't do it, then no $$$. People can only use you (even your own kid) for as long as you let them. Good luck, Maria
