I know you probably care about her and want to help, but I would advise distancing yourself from someone who could get you arrested.

I'm an Advocate

Shoplifting can be an expression of anger issues (at being "gipped, overcharged" and more. If your friend can find a support group of other people who have been down the shoplifting road, that would be great. I used to shoplift myself, even got good at it, but it always comes back to bite you on the behind...and that's what the person with the nimble fingers does not realize. And when it comes come back on him (or her), there are consequences that are far more expensive than the shoplifted item ever cost.
Diagosed with bipolar in 1985, I'm learning to deal with it better since finding my "family" at Alcoholics Anonymous, and as of 1/3/2013, I will have one year of sobriety and more clarity than I've ever experienced in my lifetime.

I would defiantly not go to stores with her anymore. You have to protect yourself.

its by the grace of god that i have not been arrested. I am trying to distance myself

the last thing I want is to be arrested. she is involved with alot of high risk behavior

that I dont go for. but if I say anything about it then it justs escalates to an arguement. I have never been to jail thank God, and at 49 years old I have no plans to go. frankly I am too old for this and just not that type of person.

I went through a couple of shoplifting phases. I still am tempted at times, but at this point I am too scared of being caught. Maybe it is a maturity thing.

Some people need to get caught to stop.

Personally, shoplifting always gave me a HUGE rush. Adrenaline and all. From the second I slip the item into a hiding spot until I make it back to my car, I would be breathing faster, heart pounding, super aware of the people around me, working on looking casual enough to not cause suspicion. Seems I became too good at it because I have never been caught, and I did it MANY times.

It was always for stupid stuff that I never really wanted or needed. There was only one time i lifted something I ended up giving as a gift.

Anyway, your friend is probably getting some kind of rush from doing it. I also advise staying away because it is not worth getting arrested for such stupidity.
