I have been reading a lot of the topics and comments in the forums. It seems like there is a great deal of emphasis on what is not right with being bipolar.

I would like to invite someone to discuss what is right with us.

Look around you. Do you see anyone who is normal?

Being diagnosed with manic-depressive disorder in 1969 I never let my diagnosis get in my way:

I have: Gotten a Bachelors Degree in English

raised 2 wonderful children

played many roles in Community Theater

(Peter Pan was my favorite)

Managed a Multi-million dollar a year company

for years.

Had the good sense to divorce an abusive spouse and the good luck to marry a good man years later.

BECAUSE: NOBODY TOLD ME I COULDN'T BECAUSE I WAS BIPOLAR.

Anyone else out there who has some good to say about being bipolar????? So much comment on the bad stuff.

It is like the news we only hear about the bad news.

I hate that. What about the accomplishments of people with bipolar disorder?

I enjoy each precious day.

i suppose its just like the rest of life, its is easier to remember or point out the bad.ten good things can be ruined by one bad.lets face it not many get a bp dx by there acclomplishments,it ussually comes from a episode that causes hurt or pain.that unfortunately sticks out more than the good stuff.

i will say that my wife can be the most loving woman.she is sweet and fun to be with. we both enjoy the outdoors, traveleing, seeing new places, just going for a car ride to nowhere.thats what i fell in love with.bp has taken some of that away.the sweet and inocent has been shattered by hurt and betral.and for me thats what i remember.its hard to see the sweet when you know what she is capable of doing, what she has already done.

on a positive ,when she is hypomanic she is full of life and energy.however it quickly turns.....i'll just leave it as positive.

my son told me yesterday on the phone that being bipolar was what gave him his creativity He is really quite brillient as far as figuring out how to build something and he draws wonderful pictures he is also one of the kindest caring people i know he wants to help and has helped so many people in many different ways.He exudes a positve energy that radiates so stongly it is felt by all of those around him.

I know what you mean about being kind and sharing. My son is the same way. When he is not feeling well he can be ugly. but, if i just calmly point out he is being rude or his behavior is not acceptable, it gives him feed back. I then try to encourage positive behavior and don't reward the negative behavior with too much attention.

I know what you mean by creativity. Over the years I have learned to channel my manic to creative, acceptable behavior. I have also had extensive therapy. So, I could figure out what was wrong.

You son is lucky is to have a caring loving mother.

I enjoy each precious day.

Mine was like the nursery rhyme when he was good, he was very very

good.....I'll skip the rest...

When he is himself:

He is helpful, and a gentleman, and opens the doors for me & won't let me carry heavy bags. Gives me good advise about people and situations at work. Tells me I am smart, and tells our daughter to get mommy to help with her homework hehe. He has a very corny funny sense of humor and we love to get into laughing fits over stupid jokes and movies. He is a very kind person, and a nice friendly guy.

Norma, thanks for making me think of all these nice memories.
