I went on the Mirena, and...I've been SO F'ing grouchy! I was dx'd with PTSD, have been dx'd with major depression.

Tonight, the suicidal ideation reared it's FUBAR'ed head.

I'm trying to distract myself, so that it will pass. I want to discuss with my doc, but don't want to go to the ER or psych.

BAH!!!!

Try calling the Suicide Prevention Hotline

They might have good suggestions.

I am so sorry you are suffering.

I have been there as well.

If you feel suicidal please call 911 or go to the ER.

Ride it out. This too will pass. Breathe, count your breaths in and out. Try to think of the sensations around you. Cover your eyes and ears if light and sound are triggers.

Just get through the crisis

I went off my nut on Mirena. Completely lost it on the Saturday, my younger daughter was crying and whinging and I cracked. I had to lock myself away so I didn't hurt her. The urge was almost overwhelming. Called the gyno on the Monday, had it out on the Tuesday.

I feel a bit duped with the Mirena. The pre-amble and information is all rosy, the the information you receive from the box is a completely different story. I had heard from several people that it was really good. Then I did some searching and found heaps of people who had a bad run with the Mirena.

They say the amount of hormone released is very small, and there's few side effects because the hormone is released locally and doesn't go through your system....however, when you think about the "local" environment, low and behold there are ovaries there. Where is a significant amount of hormones produced??? Let me guess...the ovaries??? Now this is just me putting two and two together, but I'm not an idiot.

Also when you read the post insertion info, you find that over 10% of users need to be closely monitored because ovarian cysts forming, and can become quite large in a short period of time.

Sounds more and more dodgey the more I think about it. I can't believe I didn't research it more, but I was down to the last option for hormone control as I felt it had a significant effect on my mood, and I can't take the pill.

Apparently if you have migraine with aura you have a high risk of stroke (1 in 100 per YEAR). If you take the pill on top of that, you triple the risk (3 in 100 per YEAR). Yes it was the per year part that freaked me out. If I'm standing with 33 people, one of us is highly likely to have a stroke this year. (And this information was from the neurologist.) Hmmm...not on my watch.

Action plan suggestion:

1 Get through the crisis.

2 Be gentle with yourself and avoid triggers.

3 Contact your doctor and explain what has happened.

4 Call your gyno and explain what has happened and discuss further options.

5 Discuss with psychiatrist crisis management plan for next time.

Most important is step one. Distract or substitute. Try holding ice really tightly. Tiger balm or dencorub on temples can cause sufficient distraction. Chilli is another good substitution.

If you got to the end of my rambling, then you're another minute on from where you started. That's a big plus.

I'm thinking of you.

Lamotragine 150mg bd; Dex 10mg 3x daily; Seroquel XR 300mg; Seroquel 25mg-50mg prn; Lexapro 2.5mg

I don't burn the candle at both ends,
I break it in half so I can burn all four.

Sorry, my magic wand is broken. You'll have to see a doctor instead.

Great to hear. You've made it through!

I hope you do well with your calls. There's a couple of support sites for Mirena users. If you look up Mirena IUD side effect and ignore all the pdf files, there's a few helpful sites. They may have a negative bias, but it might help clarify what you're going through if it's the Mirena causing some of the issues.

Take care. Thinking of you.

Thank you, Nienna.

I didn't want to go too in-depth b/c I know the rule about suicide. I'm on suicide watch for the weekend. It hit me out of the blue, though!

I had a friend who happened to be available online. I didn't give him details but he stayed with me anyway.

I've called off for tonight. While I would normally welcome the distraction, I think the stress of working might be too much for me tonight.

My Tdoc called back. She's been great. She offered to have me come in on her lunch break, but I was too tired. She made sure I was okay, gave me instructions for the weekend, and I have an appointment on Monday. I don't know if she can write me a note or not, but my manager wants a doc's note. Sad

They should be ok giving you a doc note. They obviously could tell you weren't ok and you were seeking help.

I you're better today. Sometimes the aftermath of a crisis can feel almost as bad as the crisis. Ride out the feelings as much as you can. Try to relax. Don't worry about work, that's the least of your worries at the moment (and if it's not the least important, then its only the second last most important thing).

TV series are a good distraction when you're feeling like this, especially funny ones. You don't have to pay much attention to them, but they bring you out of yourself a bit.

Be gentle with yourself.
