MDJunction to me

mabri"When I was diagnosed about 18 months ago with fibromyalgia, I didn't know where to turn. I got on my computer and looked for a support group where I could talk to other people with the same disease and get some help...Information, suggestions, mostly just what I can do now that I have this.....disorder/disease/syndrome...I didn't even know what to call it. I found MDJ, and yes, there was a support group for fibro. I started a post, and figured I would never get an answer. However, very quickly I was welcomed in, and became really involved in the group. I received help, support, friendship and the feeling of being truly cared about by these strangers who had become like family to me. Now, I have been here for about a year and a half...I have become a group leader, and love every minute of it. It is so wonderful to be able to help others. I still receive help and answers from the members in this group. The fibromyalgia is where I go to help, support, listen, care and even laugh. I don't know what I would do without this group." It's called NOS not otherwise specified. There are signs of Bipolar, but they aren't as extreme as someone with manic thoughts or depression. For me the depression can get pretty bad, but have rarely have manic moments.

For several yrs my pdoc only treated my symptoms and never would he put a label of "bipolar" on me. He always said I had depres/anxiety. He had to do paperwork one day about me and yes, he did write "bipolar symptoms". Is that the same as "biplar tendencies?". So for all these yrs I did not know that I had bipolar until I got re-assessed at a mental health hospital in 2007. I saw this pdoc for 26 yrs (and I still see him 1x monthly) so I needed to get a brand new perspective.

To answer your question, I may be wrong but yes, I think you can have "bipolar tendancies" and not necessarily have bipolar. Would like to get input on my thought, am I correct here? Wink

I have a similar question... Does one Manic episode make you bipolar? From everything I've read it seems the answer is yes. It's the only symptom I've had other than anxiety.

What do you mean by tendencies exactly MsMay?

Robert does not believe that I am bipolar. He thinks I just have some of the symptoms but not really the disease. He believes I have borderline personality disorder but he does not believe I am bipolar. HE told me I just need to work out more and smoke weed.

Yeah I get the work out thing from my husband for my anxiety. Which he's probably right. But it's kinda hard when you're too anxious to get out of the house. I guess I could do some stuff at home. I don't know MsMay... I think deep down they really want to help but don't know how to.

I'm sorry your having such a hard time with your man. There are times in our relationships when we have to think about ourselves in order to save ourselves. Yo9u can't really make him understand. I seems like he just doesn't want you to be mentally ill because he's scared and it's something he has no control over. But when he's ready he'll come around. How long has he known you were sick?

WEED is not the way to go. But im telling you and i know its bad, good weed is a great thing for that moment. it makes life more alot of things and makes sex into heaven!!!

but i think i am not bipolar myself. i think i fit some thing but not others. i only been manic once really that i can think of and some hypomanic days. anyway i do as i am told and take my meds. stay away from weed but embrace exercise

Defiantgroundhog,

The answer to your question is yes. All that is required to be diagnosed with bipolar is a single manic episode.
