I'm going to see a psychiatric nurse on Thursday and besides possibly tweaking my current Lamictal and Paxil cocktail I will have my therapist tell her about my anxiety and insomnia. (I just stayed up all night last might, slept for 6 hours, now I'm awake again >.<Wink

Anyways, my question is, FOR A 17 YEAR OLD, are there any medications out there that you guys rate well? I'd like to ask for something specific and know what I'm getting. Any help/advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Btw, I've already been on seroquel for sleep, trazodone for sleep, and several medications for anxiety and the only name I can remember is gabapentin. Either these didn't work or they worked for a matter of days and then didn't anymore. Help!

I'm christen. My diagnosis is Bipolar II. My cocktail is Lamictal 50mg 2x/day and Paxil 20mg 1x/day. I may be imbalanced, but I don't bite. Let's be friends.

Hello,

I'm assuming you're the 17 y.o.

From what I know about lamictal is that it is used a fair bit for children with epilepsy. That's the reason for the revolting blackcurrant, instant melting thing that happens when you take it. It's meant to be child friendly or something.

Cipramil or lexapro (pretty much the same action, just different isomers.) are often prescribed for anxiety, and to help lift depression if your mood stays low despite the other meds, however, they can trigger a mixed state, so if you're prescribed these you need to monitor moods well.

Seroquel is good, but it takes a while for your body to get used to it. I refused it for a long time because a quarter of a 25mg tablet used to render me a zombie the next day. My doctor insisted I keep going with it and now with 450mg pm I'm functional the next day.

600mg I'm a bit groggy in the morning. 750mg pm, I'm a zombie in the morning, but I need that level to not go off the deep end. 900mg, forget the next day, but you've probably already forgotten it because that amount is for crisis point, which also points out that you should have managed things a bit differently about 6 hours earlier!

I hope my rambling has helped you in some way, just don't expect any quick fix, but rejoice! You will be able to learn to manage your symptoms from a young age and enjoy a much more stable life!

Wishing you all the very best on the medication roller coaster.

N.

I am not sick, I am enhanced.

People say these things take time. I say a nanosecond should be long enough.

Lamotragine 150mg bd; Dex 10mg 3x daily; Seroquel XR 300mg; Seroquel 25mg-50mg prn; Lexapro 2.5mg

I don't burn the candle at both ends,
I break it in half so I can burn all four.

Sorry, my magic wand is broken. You'll have to see a doctor instead.

I take Klonopin (Clonazepam) a low dosage .05 mgs at bedtime along with Seroquel 25 mgs (used as a sleep aid again a low dose). I also take my Lithium dosage at bedtime too, this helps me sleep...this combo helps me sleep pretty good.

That stinks that you aren't getting sleep like you should be. I take Abilify and it makes me tired. I usually don't have a problem falling asleep since it took away my racing thoughts. I'm surprised that Seroquel didn't put you to sleep. I take Lamictal and it's a great medication for depression and mood. The Paxil is an antidepressant. I take a mood stabilizer, anti-psychotic, and an antidepressant to control my bipolar. You may need an anti-psychotic to let you get some sleep. Some of us can't take an antidepressant because it can cause hypo-mania/mania. I hope that you find something that works for you and you are able to get some rest. I'm glad you are getting help at a young age. You won't have to suffer long like a lot of the rest of us did. Let us know what happens. We are here for you.
