I think the one thing I cannot undertand about myself is that when I am cycling. I have this unstoppable need to hurt myself physically. The last time I had a cycle, which was the first week in January, I took a rubber malate and hit myself in the head over and over again. I took hard shoes and did the same thing. I felt so low and so hopeless. When I cycle I often have so many thoughts going through my head at once that I just want them to stop. But I also try to scratch myself until I bleed, rip my hair out. It is horrible. Now I am having som bleeding in my ears and eyes, have some swelling in my head and brain (Not the first time) and a headache for five days as a repercussion of my actions, yet I never lear. And when I am not cycling I see that it is not rational. I take my meds, but, it doesn't prevent every cycle. What do I do? Is anyone else like this?

Mary,

What do you mean by, "Now I am having som bleeding in my ears and eyes." You said you beat yourself in the head with a mallot and hard shoes the first week in Jan. Did you seek medical attention after you did this? Did a doctor tell you your "brain is swollen" and if so is the doctor aware of the current bleeding? Did you just start bleeding from your eyes and ears? If you answer no to any of these questions you need to seek medical attention immediately.

Are you currently under the care of a psych doctor? If not please get in to see one as soon as possible. If you are under the care of a psych. doctor is he/she aware that you continue to cycle and self injure when you cycle? Are you in therapy?

I do not self injure so I cannot help you in that regard but I have read other post where it has been discussed. Others have said that when they get the urge to self injure they would focus on something else and do something else like coloring or cutting up paper until they had control of the 'urge'. There were many other examples of what they would do to stop themselves from self injury.

I am sure someone else who knows a lot more about self injury than me will respond to this post soon.

Take care,

Lustrious

Mary, Lustrious is right, you need to get in to see a doctor asap, even if that means going to the emergency room, your meds are not working right if you are having these cycles, self injury from what I understand of it, is a way to stop the pain and it causes a increase in some chemical in our bodies that make us feel better, it isn't a good thing.. Please seek help asap.
