My appetite is GONE. I have unbelievable stress in my life right now. My husband is trying to get a better job, which stresses him out, I am adjusting to medication which is taxing on my body, plus I have no more percocets which is killing me. I believe the prozac may be one of the reasons I can't eat. My ribs are poking out, lol. I'm holding on though.

I have decided not to make myself eat, because I had an orange and a lean cuisine yesterday and felt sick as hell.

I have this obscene reasoning that because my husband eats enough for two people that I should starve, because food is grossly expensive. We are struggling. I can't work right now even though i would like to do SOMETHING that wouldn't make my bipolar rear it's ugly head.

My mother says to me "You'll become a skeleton and thats what you want to get attention!!" Nobody understands what it is like to just completely be unable to nourish yourself, body and soul. I'd rather not have attention.

It's just life is beating me. I have bill collectors calling all the time, and I'm broke so I just don't answer my phone. The the pressures of school if overwhelming too. I'm knee deep in math and science (not the easiest subjects, and I spend hours just to keep up, but I feel like if I don't get an A, I'm a failure.

I dunno if I'm anorexic. I mean I'm still healthy weight and I still have a menstrual cycle, so an eating disorder clinic would laugh at me, right? Eh......but we all have problems.

If it wasn't for a kind word or two from this site I would be beyond help or reason, because the world doesn't understand.

Yeah, the weight loss is common. Be careful though -- Prozac makes me hypomanic (or in the hospital, manicccccc) when first starting or titrating it. But I love Prozac Smile

Well, I'm taking a mood stabilzer with prozac, so I don't think the mania will hit me. Actually, I've been going from crying one minute to feeling ok the next. But no mania yet. I was just tearing up a minute ago going "Why can't I eat!!! I'm going to get sick!!" We'll see.

I was on a mood stabilizer when I was in the hospital totally manic just from having my dose of Prozac raised from 40 mg to 60 mg. Those warnings they provide, even the ones for teens -- take them seriously! Just my two cents . . . .

When I took Prozac, I almost completely stopped eating. I'm still not sure if it was actually suppressing my appetite or if that was a precursor to the SUPERMEGA manic episode that followed.

I really do think you should talk to someone seriously about your current eating habits. It doesn't take too long for these kinds of things to snowball.

ChillPill,

As I've shared with you, I've been told that a weight loss of about 10 lbs. is common with Prozac. What I am really, really worried about right now are your thoughts and feelings about eating.

I don't know if you are anorexic, either; it would take a psychiatrist to make that diagnosis. But I can tell you that it's definitely possible to have a very serious eating disorder even if you are of normal weight and have your menses. If you went to an eating disorders clinic right now, I promise you they would not laugh at you. They would be very concerned about you, just as I am.

Please talk with your pdoc about this, or find another pdoc. Please find a licensed mental health professional to talk with about this. I am always available by PM.

Bipolar II, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attacks, Agoraphobia & PTSD; Alcoholic in recovery since 3/21/07.

Aplenzin 522mg; Pristiq 200mg; Lamictal 400mg; Geodon 160mg; Ativan 1mg TID; Deplin 15mg; Xanax PRN; Metoprol 100mg.

If there is an eating disorder involved I am sure they would like to get it fixed asap before you get the seriously ill part of the disease. If you think a clinic would help I would go
I am not a Dr and therefore are not able to provide medical advice, the opinions I express are mine and based on my experiences and should not be taken as anything other than my opinion.

You awake as if from a nightmare to find yourself standing in front of a blank wall, dazed with no idea as to how you got there.

You feel something in your hand. You look down to see you are holding paint brush, you are confused. Out of the corner of your eye you see a table, on that table is some paint. The colours make you feel happy and safe, you look to the other side, and there is another table with paint. The colours are dark and remind you of your nightmare, a chill runs down your spine at the thought of it.

You look back at the canvas and see something you missed before. Now you understand. you chose a colour, and begin to paint.

Above the wall was written,

Your life

I can't tell if it's the start of an ED or just the Prozac. I've always been weird about food, and my weight goes up and down but the thing is my life is very unhappy right now, and I may be controlling my diet too much to compensate.

I used to have an eating disorder and it took something traumatic to shock me out of it. I wouldn't want the same thing for you. The best thing to do is to talk to a pdoc about it and see the reasons why you are having this. Sometimes stress causes me to not want to eat to. Sometimes it's about control. Ask what you can do about controlling the stressers in your life and work on eating well.

I just thought of it - there is also a book called Wasted : A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia by Marya Hornbacher who also suffered from bipolar disorder (and wrote a different book about that part of her life) that was really good.
