MDJunction to me

"To me, Mdjunction comes down to motivation. The support and information I have found here motivated me to take a very proactive stance regarding my illness. This led me to find medication and doctors that are giving me my life back.
More important than even the motivation, though, is the friendship I have found at MDJ. I have made some of the best friends of my entire life right here in this group. Even though most of us have never met, it feels as if we have known each other for years.
If Angels walk among us, and I believe that they do, most of them are here at MDJ.

This was an interesting article on possible treatment augmenters.

I can't get the link to work but if you google

Adjunct Treatments for

Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder:

What to Try When You Are Out of Ideas

One of the drugs is asprin. Now I know how could it be that simple?? But it is an anti-inflammatory and there is some thought that bipolar disorder is due to inflammation. I was just wondering if anyone had tried the different drugs and if it may have helped your symptoms.

The drugs are:

Aspirin

Celecoxib

Estrogen and Raloxifene

Folate

Minocycline

Mirtazapine

Omega-3 Fatty Acids (fish oil)

Pramipexole

Pregnenolone

I already use the fish oil and folate. I'm going to try to add an asprin every so often too. Take care, Maria

Bipolar NOS

I have heard or read that aspirin interferes with the absorption of antidepressants or other bipolar drugs. I am sorry to be so vague about this, but that's all I can remember.

Hey UncertainOne:

There is much evidence that inflammation in the body has much to do with cell degeneration and aging. I have read this many times regarding diet and eating healthier but never related to mental health. The body is one giant complex 'system' so it makes sense to me that we need to keep the entire system as healthy as possible hoping for a positive effect on our illness. Does that make sense lol? Anyway, my Pdoc has me on one baby aspirin a day for the cardiovascular health benefit but I do believe it offers more than that with the anti-inflammatory effect it produces in general. I am also eating near vegetarian and as organic/locally grown as possible. Healthy is good

Eric;

Hi. I find it interesting at your age the pdoc has you on aspirin - it makes me believe that there must be something to it. Do you get the frozen fish oil in the little white containers that hasn't been touched? I've gotten that for probably 10 years and I HATE the taste and a 'side-effect' or two! lol.

Also, while I always have fallen on the depressive side (maybe it was just my life!) have you been more on the manic side or balanced. I've talked to soooo many people living with OCD and they have nearly always been on the manic side, which makes me curious.

Hope you're well, friend.

Christian

I just wanted to note that you should still talk to a doctor before adding any drug to a regular regimen. Even if it's something you can pick up at the gas station, you should talk to someone who is knowledgeable before you start taking it consistently.

Good point Jenny. I wanted to add that if you add asprin remember to always let your doctor or dentist know if you are going to have any surgical procedures done. Asprin is a blood thinner.
