"Bipolar Disorder" (drelew)

MDJunction to me

grandmasylvia"MDJ has been "a soft place to fall" for me as Dr Phil says. I have this very painful rare disease Dercum's Disease and take comfort in finding others here who share their knowledge and compassion. Many
members have helped me just by understanding my anguish and validating
my pain. We are working together to encourage research toward a cure.

When and how, if at all, do you tell your family? How many courses are needed for this revelation.I stated 7 maybe its less. What are your thoughts.

My family wasn't surprised. They already had me pegged. When I told them they were like "See, told you so". Chances are your family, if you see them very often, might already realize that there is a problem.
Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor

I'm an Advocate

I have only told my brother, who is an MD. I knew he would get it. Haven't told my mother or sister because they would ask too many probing questions that I would rather not deal with. I have enough of a support base elsewhere, and since they know I am a recovered alcoholic, they no doubt chalk up a lot of my behavior issues as related to that.

monkey,

I made a mistake with this. When dx'd, I told too many that did not need to know. I got more wisdom now for the pain. Some folks I've told treat me like I had leprosy.

You know and I know what's what, but it's what they think they know that they'v told their neighbor that is out there. They're way out there.

I told people that I trusted and wouldnt look at me like I had the plaqueErmm I would rather be healthy mentally and physically than hiding a illness from people, especially if you cant help itUnsure

They know about the adhd but thats about it. I am a bit scared telling too many people.Small village in the area i live.Tell one person before you know it they all know. Lots of musicians ,artists and general outcasts. Lots of pot fumes that drifts from the hills of silverlake. I do my weird installations and put them in the front yard,so i think im just the crazy gay guy! lol.....more comments, like the plaque idea alot!

monkey,

ADHD probably is easier to accept than the B word, not that I'm afraid to say it but only very softly behind the barn...
