MDJunction to me

MissNikkiAnn"When you have an illness with the name "Non-Familial Dysautonomia" (a name that most people, and even doctors, have never heard of), you need a network
of people who understand the name and the symptoms/issues that come with it.
MDJunction led me to that network of people during a very confusing and sickly time. For this I am thankful. And for this reason I try my best to give back to other members the same care and help that I received through MDJunction.

I've been on zoloft for about a mth now. At first I was fine, just muscle cramping but then the other night I started to get chest pains and bad heartburn which in turn threw me into the worst panic attack I've ever had. I was so scared, I thought I was having a heart attack. My depression was alot worse too. My pdoc told me when I first started taking it that if the zoloft made my symptoms worse that I most likely have bipolar. Does anyone know anything about that and has anyone had these kind of side effects on zoloft? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

During a med change a year ago i was put on Zoloft to help anxiety, i became hypomanic borderline mania, i had to go off this med right away. Now i hear this med is good too and helps many people, i think you need a mood stablizer with it. I was on a mood stablizer too but this mood stablizer did not work (depotoke) i'm now on Lithium. I wish you all the best.

I tried Zoloft and it completely destabilized me. Took it for about six weeks and it kicked me into mania. Then I had to taper off because when I tried to just stop I had withdrawal symptoms which were awful. It works just fine for some folks. It sounds like you should call your pdoc and tell him/her what you are experiencing.

Zoloft 25mg works ok for anxiety. When I increased to 50 to help my anxiety, it made me hypomanic complete with irritability, and eventually worsened my anxiety as a result of going through this at work. After about a month of my increase when I realized the hypomania is turning slowly into mania I called my doc who immediately told me to half my pills until I get a new prescription. I had to increase my Seroquel as a result. When I went to see my pdoc a week after decreasing my Zoloft, I was hypomanic in his office and he wanted to get me off the Zoloft completely. He tried discussing with me my meds but I was all over the place.

thanx guys! @ nurse, that's exactly what happened to me to a tee! I was fine on the 25 but as soon as I went to 50, I got worse! I called my pdoc and she told me exactly what urs did. So I'm taking the 25 til I see her next week. Man it's a good thing I DIDN't stop cold turkey like I was going to!

I've had chest pains and heartburn because of Zoloft as well. And when I first started it and every time I've had it increased I get spot rashes on my person too. I have to say, and this is not nessesaraly a good thing, but I'm glad to know that it's not only me. They have all gone away with time although I do get really achy all the time. But then that could also be the combo of the weather and my arthritis. Doesn't it always figure that a person cannot have only one health issue, but always happens to be 'blessed' with all sorts of them?

@ edyn, I'm sorry you had to go through that and it's good to know that my chest pain and heartburn are more than most likely side effects from the zoloft, being that you have felt the same thing. I really thought I was having a heart attack. I must say, it was one of the scariest things I have went through. But thank you for sharing ur story and letting me know I'm not alone.
