My doctor doesn't think I should work but I kind of have to. I am afraid I will lose my benifts if I work even if it is only part time. I mean will they review my case and say she is doing better she doesn't need this anymore. I would like to know if anyone have worked part time and received disabitly for a while. thanks

I'm not sure where you live, but the SSA has a few programs that allow people to work part time and still maintain benefits. There is some kind of limit to either the number of hours or the amount of pay you can earn. Check with your local social security office.

They say I can earn up to 700.00 a month but I am afraid that is will get me in trouble. I don't think I could work that much but I want to try to earn a little extra income.

I just want to know if anybody does it and if anything happened to them

I, unfortunately, have to work full time right now, so I have not tried it. However, several of my clients receive disability and work part time with no problems. If you are really concerned, you could find someone who would pay you in cash or pay you as a contract employee so they don't have to report your earnings.

I would like to try and cut hair again. I do not know if I can do that under the table so to speak. I am glad to know you know people who receive disability and work part time. Have they been doing it a while? sorry to be a bother.

You are not a bother!

I have one client who has been working about a year off and on at places like Walmart or a hardware store. I have another client who has been working part time as a foreman for a few months. Most of my other clients who work on disability do things like lawn work, so they get paid "under the table". I don't know about being a stylist, but I am sure there is a way to do it and make it work.

Nothing has happened to me. As long as I don't go over my set amount 690 gross. I'm fine. I have receiver benefits for 5 years now and they extended it since I am working pt, not full time.

I currently work part time and receive SSDI. I do not know how the above folks got their max for the month; I was told I could make up to 1000 before taxes. I am going to have to check this out.

I have heard that the max is around $900-1000/month before taxes. It could be different in different states because even though SSDI is a federal program, the vocational rehab programs that often manage the part-time work programs are usually run by the state.

Arauna, I think it has something to do with how much SSDI you recieve.
