I was curious to know if there is a medium level of Bipolar disorder. I know being bipolar you experience extreme highs and lows but is there any in the middle?

I'm curious because I haven't been extremely depressed w/ any thoughts of suicide but I have had thoughts like my fiancé isn't attracted to me, my self worth feels degraded, I could cry at any moment for no reason just kind of down in the dumps. Other times I’m really happy and in a great mood. When I’m in a great mood I love to talk to people and I can go on and on but when I’m at those down times I've noticed I turn into a hermit... So I guess my question is can I be bipolar but not have drastic Lows w/ thoughts of suicide... Can you help me understand? Thanks!

Absolutely there is a "middle". My experience is that I fall to this middle after and episode of mania. I can stay in that middle for a long time, or a short time, but 99% of the time, the middle is followed by a crash to depression.

Please please see a Psychiatrist so that you can be evaluated and treated. Do not waste any time. This disorder can destroy relationships and ultimately, your life.

Even though your symptoms aren't as extreme as some people's are, you can still have bipolar disorder. There are various "flavors"; bipolar I, bipolar II, rapid cycling, and others. Don't try to diagnose yourself. Go to a professional.

I agree with zhotcat. I spend a lot of time in the middle, myself. But it varies as to whether I get a manic or a depressed episode next. It's like a raffle, for crying out loud.

Do go and see someone though.

Take care! --peach

I have been diagnosed with Bipolar type 2, for me it is either really depressed or "normal" moods, with anger, panic, anxiety, and crying spells thrown in,in the middle of it, one of the best sites that I have found for the explanation of the BP 2 is on

http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/frameset.html

if you have not been properly diagnosed, then you might want to read the psycheducation.org website and see if that fits, and then print off the information that you find and take that with you to your doctor, I had to do that to persuade them to consider the bipolar rather than the major depression that I had been diagnosed with.
