Just wondering if anyone else gets very paranoid during a manic episode? Mine is awful. I do not get the euphoria some people get when they are manic. I really have a bad time when the mania kicks in.

Hi Maxicat. I have been prone to paranioa in the past(PTSD) and I'm sorry you're dealing with that, it sucks. I couldn't leave the house for weeks and weeks bc I let it take me over. A little bit of Xanax helped me relax enough to get out. I think relaxation may be a big key to preventing it or getting out of it. My ex would get very paranoid during mania. He was certain people were creeping around the yard, peeking inside and had me get No Tresspassing and No Soliciting signs to put everywhere for starters.

I was reading about that last night online actually-type in mania and paranioa and maybe that will help find some info on it.

Yes, Maxicat...

Paranoia--unreasonable, unfounded fear has been one of the elements which contribute to my anger and rage--a very uncomfortable feeling!

My antidote for the fear of paranoia is to pause, to step back, to give my fear a little time to "go away", before I speak or react. That little "pause" is a powerful, AND difficult, tool; but, before I can use the tool, I have to be aware of my fearful state of mind. That awareness is called cognition, and cognition requires practice and help from a therapist or counselor as well as from my wife and my friends.

That's just my experience.

What do you think?

Regards,

Jim

Paranoia is one of the worst feelings I experience. Logically, I know people aren't out to get me, but sometimes I just feel that the whole world is either laughing at me or blaming me for their problems. Fortunately, my paranoid states do not last nearly as long as they used to. The used to go on for months at the time.

I don't get "good" mania, if you'd call it that. I get very sexual, often with people I really don't like. I just need sex. I get paranoid that the entire world has this huge scheme against me. I get irritable beyond anything that is considered normal & I get rages. It's still better than the depression though.

My manic periods aren't great either. I'm always scared a crash is coming, and usually it is. That's the curse of mixed episodes and rapid cycling.

Well, I do have a prescription for Xanax for those awful times. I also feel like everyone is out to get me, that I have done something I'm not aware of, etc. I know it's just the mania, but it sucks! Thanks for the replies.
